Let's hope that Ainge got the interceptions out of his system....i said it last week, the only way Bama has a chance to win is if we help them...well, we helped and it nearly cost us the game.

Kudos to Ainge though for a) making that tackle after the pick...that was a huge play at the time, and it proved even bigger by games end and b) for shaking it off in the 2nd half and coming out and playing like we expect.

Moving forward...i think it's safe to say this offense has to control the ball. we can't afford sillly turnovers, especially when our running game isn't up to par. I'll continue to say it...if we don't turn the ball over, we will have a chance to win every game we play.

Defensively, we are getting better....they did a great job of bottling up Darby and the pressure on JPW was nothing short of great.

Offensively, it's still up in the air if this O line can run block effectively...our running game doesn't have to be special, it just needs to work. running on 1st down for marginal gains or running on 2nd down after an incompletion for marginal gains is what drives me nuts...Play to our strength...the run game will, and has in the past, come to us because of our ability to keep the defense on it's heels. put us in 2nd and 3rd and short....and the run game will be fine. Put is in 2nd and 3rd and long...well, we all know how that works...fortunately we've been great on 3rd down all year, but i hate to keep getting put in 3rd down passing situations....

the next 3 games imo is the toughest stretch of games on the schedule. we won't sneak up on anyone, two of them are on the road, in very hostile environments...and all of them imo are capable of beating us. LSU is the most talented, great D, great skill on offense, J Russell though...which guy shows up? SC...very good defense, Syvelle Newton has been playing very well, Sydney rice and the running game are all effective. Ark...maybe the most dangerous of the three. they are solid all over the feild...great RB's, good young qb, and a defense while not stellar, has been good.

one game at a time...that's all we can do at this point...i don't care about rankings, SEC CG etc...i won't care about any of that until after the KY game. And if any of it matters at that point, great. if not, well, i'll cross that bridge when i get to it.

Go Vols.

Let 's hope that whatever Kines was throwing at Ainge in the secondary(you can never see the backfield onTV), he and Cutcliffe solve it this week. I assure you we will see more of it until Ainge proves he has an answer....

yep...i agree with that 100%. I also noticed on a couple of occaisions, Ainge never looked off the receiver he was going for...it wasn't every play mind you, but the 1st pick was one of those occaisons...which suprised me...he has been doing such a good job all season of going thru his progression and finding the right guy.

they'll get it fixed, but if you've watched Charlie Strong this year, you know he likes to mix it up and bring tons of pressure....i would expect our O line and backs to be very busy this weekend picking up blitzes.

Psst. Charlie Strong is DC at Florida.

There was no excuse for the throws he made. The kid was jazzed big time and just over threw. No excuses. Once he got calmed down in the 4th you saw him pick them apart like we knew he could. They played a modified zone and EA just over threw open WR after open WR.
He had his bad game now it is time to move on.

From everything I read and watched Kines threw the book away and went with completely unexpected packages. All things considered I think we did well. We recovered in the second half and cleaned up a lot of the issues. Our new problem is to stop having first half issues. We're going to go into a halftime one game where we can't recover so solving this at the latest by the 2nd quarter will be crucial.

I tend to agree with this. Kines had a good scheme but EA was off. I thought Danielson was correct that were a bit greedy early. However, UA rarely got pressure on Ainge. He simply made some bad throws.

I said this in another thread but we were our own worst enemy in that game. Bama played hard no doubt but if we had our UGA level of performance in this game - we'd have won by at least 10.

LSU looks like the trouble game to me. Their D-line is the best we'll see. EA will be pressured and our run game will struggle.

South Carolina doesn't have the secondary Alabama has. But they do have a better pass rush, so it kind of evens out. Ainge tends to play well on the road, so I have a feeling he'll bounce back well. Fred Bennett is a great corner for S. Carolina, but they have problems at the other corner. Brandon Isaac, their ROV, is solid enough, but their FS, I think, is still Mychal Belcher, a freshman ... true freshman.

Meachem on Ainge from Saturday...

tfpOnline..
"He didn't have a good game," UT receiver Robert Meachem said after the Vols' harrowing 16-13 win. "When he's calm, we score touchdowns. When he gets excited -- and he gets really excited -- everything looks so open to him, and he thinks he can do anything.

"When he's calm, no one can stop him."

When he's calm, no one can stop him....

Listen to your receiver Erik....
