John Ward is easily the best of all time (along with Harry Carey), but Kesling blows this other guy out of the water. Wilkerson was tripping all over his words when tempo got fast yesterday and he couldn't keep up.

Most fans would go for Ward, but he's no longer available.

I liked the substitute. But granted his flaws might become more annoying if I listened to him more. On the other hand, he might gett better with more practice.

Bob Kesling is more pollished, controlled and thinks more like a seasoned broadcaster, but man you can't beat Wilkerson's energy and passion, even though he may stumble and make more mistakes. Give me passion and energy over catch phrases and name dropping.

The one that gets under my skin the most is Kesling's sidekick Bert Bertelkamp. I cringe whenever I hear him yell MONEY. It wouldn't be so bad every once in a while and at the end of the game when they've actually made some shots, but it's like he gets paid each time he says it. He said it in the first Exhibition game when McBee made his first shot :ermm: (it was his first shot at Tennessee) how do you know that he's "money"? :dunno:

I loved listening to Wilkerson last night. I turned the sound down on the TV due to the two dorks they had announcing it and switched on the radio to listen to Wilkerson. He did a great job! Still like Keisling for Football though. And yes I too miss John Ward, but he ain't coming back, so I've learned to live with it.

Ward will always be the man...I wish Titans radio guy, Mike Keith, would have gotten the nod. Wilkerson certainly seems more excitable than Kesling.

Definitely agree, I'm tired of hearing "Money" every time makes a shot. I loved Wilkerson's enthusiasm and genuine passion for the Vols. I've long felt that was something Kesling was lacking was a genuine passion for the Vols. If he were doing a game for a national network, I would laud his professionalism, but this is a school-centric network and I like a bit of a homer.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think Kesling does a pretty good job at calling the basketball games, much better than he does with football.

For the record, I thought Ward was a much better football announcer than basketball.

I enjoyed listening to Kesling when we had JuJuan,Ramar, and Tyler all on the floor at the same time, he could never get it right. Kesling is a waterhead. I would rather listen to Ronnine Milsap call the games.

Hahahaha

A. what is a waterhead?
B. can i get away with calling something that in public?

C. Ronnie Milsap on the call "Hopson's high arc looks like ...SmokeyMountainRain...and keeps on fallin!!" and "did you just see that Bert?? Wow. Me either!!"

JOHN WARD

I use to turn the volume down on the tv and listen to him call the game on the radio. The man is Tennessee legend.

Waterhead = Retard

"Kesling is a waterhead."

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are....

Kinda harsh but funny all the same....

OH...John Ward, hands down.....I don't even listen to the Vol Radio Network anymore....Just the replays on Sunday nights (sometimes)...

Didn't get to listen to Wilkerson...wish I had. I miss passion and excitement that Kesling does not have. Frankly, I miss having more of a homer that most of the SEC schools have.

Agreed. We gave him some leeway on bball games b/c we love his voice - he made us feel at home. But he was a tad bit behind the higher pace of play in round ball.

I don't know that I'd call Bert the "sidekick." He's by far the most knowledgeable bball announcer for the Vols I've heard in a long time. Maybe you're sick of the "money" call, but that's his thing now, and he'll do it if enough people like it.

I could actually enjoy Kesling doing play-by-play if they brought in Jesse Ventura to do the commentary.
