Ranking the unbeatens in college football based on their chances to run the table

I thought this was even-handed. It should be obvious, but "most likely" doesn't mean "likely" exactly. It might just mean "least unlikely".

It's also true that Michigan and Ohio state will not both beat the other, UT and UGA, Clemson and Syracuse. Those are the regular season collisions.

Ol' Miss, on the other hand, doesn't face anybody on this list.

Clemson is the most likely if they don’t crap the bed against Syracuse. The winner of Ohio St-Michigan should go undefeated. The winner of Tennessee-Georgia should go undefeated. I don’t see Ole Miss, TCU, UCLA, and Syracuse making it through unscathed. I believe we will end up seeing 3 undefeated conference champions (SEC, Big 10, ACC) in the CFP and a 1-loss SEC team. Ohio St and Michigan have horrible SOS so I don’t see two Big 10 teams making it due to that. The only thing that will complicate things is if Tennessee/Georgia makes the SECCG and loses to a 1-loss Alabama/Ole Miss. Then you could potentially have three 1-loss SEC teams sitting there with only the SEC Champion guaranteed to get in. I would not want to be in charge of making that decision.

We really really want Ole Miss to beat Bama, assuming we beat Georgia. It was fun beating Bama but that’s not the kind of game you sign up for to play twice.

Now if we lose to Georgia, we want Bama to beat Ole Miss. then we want Georgia to beat Bama in the SEC Championship. That would be best for our playoff chances.

Perfect analysis. I believe both teams in the SEC championship would be in the playoffs, if both have only one loss. There's still a lot of ball to play and something totally unexpected may happen (like Michigan and Ohio state both losing). We had a lot of help in 1998 during the last 3 weeks of the regular season where TN emerged as the sole undefeated team.
