As I have argued from the beginning, these things are caused by socioeconomic conditions. As the EU crashes and individuals see their livelihoods go up in smoke, more of this will occur in Europe and religion will be used and exploited in order to incite the masses to the cause.

I think you're spot on. We like to think that people who do this are uncivilized, but desperation has a way of bringing this out.

I've said all along there is too much historical national identity among the EU members for them to really commit to doing what they would need to do to make the EU experiment work.
