I am sorry that through the process of poor mate selection you inherited the last name of scholars and statesmen but the idiocy of a glue sniffing mouth breather.

Charlottesville is a pretty town and you have a Cavaliers team that has a lot going for it after beating the Hokies. You could write about that, except no one would take your sportswriting seriously at all because you are either the dumbest writer in America, or you are using your vote in a desperate attempt to get Brandy Pearl to notice you. I am sorry when you tried to sweep her away with your future trust from Pigeon Forge outlet working to Virginia where you make $37,500 as a sportwriter she opted for the successful millionaire who was pursuing her instead.

Villanova at 8th seems a little bit high. Kentucky may be high at 12th. Leaving Tennessee unranked? You contemptuous bastard.

Naw, seriously, tell us how u really feel.

Honestly, though, people that do this should have their voting privileges revoked.

This has got to be the most worthless thread ever.

Those rankings aren't any crazier than Digger picking the Gators to win it all on the preseason show. I bet he's feeling a little stupid about now.

Front runner for the Dork of the Year award: Whitelaw Reid. Congratulations can be sent to him at wreid@dailyprogress.com

Here's what Gary Parrish had to say about him:

"Does anybody know Whitelaw Reid from the Daily Progress in Virginia?
We have to sit this guy down, ASAP.
I busted him up in last week's Poll Attacks, and I thought he might listen and adjust. Alas, he did not. My man still has Villanova ranked No. 8 and Tennessee unranked despite the fact that Tennessee is undefeated with a neutral court win over Villanova. He still has Connecticut behind Michigan State, Kentucky and Washington despite the fact that Connecticut is undefeated with wins over Michigan State and Kentucky, both of which beat Washington. And he still has Missouri ahead of Georgetown despite the fact that Georgetown is undefeated with a win over -- you'll never guess -- Missouri.
That last game, a thriller, happened last Tuesday.
Do you think Whitelaw heard about it?
Do you think Whitelaw even knows the season is underway?"

Hahaha... This guy is a firm believer in the Lane Kiffin PR philosophy. He is probably so tickled to have a ntnl writer mentioning his name he shat himself and didn't wipe just to see if anyone would smell the sheet he is burying his career in...

Aside from being a complete prick, he at least makes a reasonable argument, except for that Virginia crap.

Not really because:

1. He takes into account an exhibition game.
2. He has Vandy ranked (btw higher than anyone and is a Vandy grad), and the same Belmont team he penalized UT for barely beating played Vandy close.
3. Let's go by his logic: 1. We lost an exhibition game 2. We barely beat Belmont. So what does that say about Villanova (who he has ranked 8th) when they lost to that same UT team and not only lost but got dominated on a neutral floor in pretty much every aspect of the game.

This was a good email he received:

WOW! Tons of e-mails today about this Top 25 thing. I’m going to start posting them here so everyone can see them. Here’s the first.
From Bailey Heaps:

I took a practice test for a law school final yesterday. I did horribly. Is my professor going to hold it against me? He better not. It was practice. I’d make the same argument for Tennessee and its exhibition embarrassment. Practice games should not inform rankings. That is one reason my alma mater, Georgetown, makes them all closed-door and doesn’t release the results.

Next, to address this point: “One win over a ranked team is supposed to move you into the Top 25? By that rationale, we should just move Virginia into the Top 25 after the Cavaliers’ win over No. 15 Minnesota last week.“ As I see it, this ignores losses. One great win for an undefeated team should give you a chance at moving up the rankings, because you’ve done everything you should do and demonstrated that you have potential. But, if you’ve lost, that changes things. Then you have to start balancing the wins against the losses. So for UVA, you have to factor in the L to the atrocious Stanford Cardinal (I can attest; I go to law school there). But, for UCF, they’re undefeated. They’ve taken care of business and defeated an SEC school. Much stronger case there.

Finally, this: “One win or one loss—even head to head—doesn’t automatically slide you past that opponent. Especially this early in the season.“ I would argue that early in the season is PRECISELY when one win or one loss head to head should slide you past an opponent. Say two teams have played seven games against so-so talent (this ignores, temporarily, that Georgetown had beaten good teams and Missouri had not) and then they play each other and one team wins. How can you possibly say that, on balance, the LOSING TEAM deserves to be ranked ahead? The only thing they have in common is the head-to-head matchup and one team won.

Later in the season, I agree with you. For instance, I’d never argue that after Rutgers beat Georgetown at the RAC last February, the Scarlet Knights deserved to slide ahead of the Hoyas. That would be absurd, because GU had beaten Duke, UConn, Villanova, and Butler, among others, while Rutgers had beaten TCNJ. When the resumes are more complete, it is easy to discount a one-game head-to-head result.

But right now? I don’t really see it. Specifically, Missouri is 6-1 with the 86th most difficult schedule in the country and a nine-point overtime loss in their home state to Georgetown. The Tigers’ best win came against RPI No. 61 LaSalle. (Disclaimer: I realize RPI is far from perfect in early December.) Georgetown is 8-0 with the third most difficult schedule in the country. They’ve beaten RPI No. 18 (ODU), No. 17 (NC State), No. 34 (Missouri), and No. 25 (Utah State). So, that is four wins against top-34 teams, compared to Missouri’s zero. And, of course, the head-to-head win. Please make the case for Missou.

He admits to not ever hearing of Gary Parrish and he is in the same line of work? Wow, that speaks volumes of how clueless he is.

It would be different if the guy was working the English Premier League beat. Pretty sure not knowing who the lead college basketball writer at CBS is makes a compelling argument you shouldn't have an AP vote.
