So I'm sitting here watching basketball and they keep showing Tim Tebow's "poor me" commercial. Perhaps you've seen it: the one where he states that "they" never thought he'd play in high school, "they" said he'd never get a D-1 scholarship.

Can someone tell me who these "theys" are? I went back and checked and he was a five star recruit by Scout. Then began the four year love affair and the only thing that stopped him from overshadowing Seabiscuit in popularity was the ESPN slobbering love affair of the Patriots and Tom Brady.

The whole "they never thought we could do it" thing is my least favorite contrived motivational tool. I began to distain it after Michael Jordan's Bulls won 69 games and after winning he said "no one thought we could do it." If I recall EVERYONE thought they could and would do it.

This commercial is just one more reason to despise Tebow and his media handlers.

I guess there trying to make it look like little poor tebone and make a commercial for him to try and convence everybody that he belongs in the NFL.
I dont think Eric Berry will be making any commercials like that.

He probably would if someone was going to pay him a boatload of money to do it. Just like anyone else.

I believe the Tebow was a home school kid. I remember something to the effect that he was to play for one team, but the coaches told him that there was no way he could be a HS QB. he went to Neese (sp?) but I think there were doubters early on who said he was not good enough to be a college qb....

Maybe one of our resident Gator fans can further elaborate, but I have heard something along the lines of this story.

I loved the "Nobody thought we could win a national championship" when they were a preseason rank top 5 and favorite to win the SEC.

And guess who was a higgher ranked QB than Tebow? My man Crompton! First everyone thought he could, then failed miserably, and made a huge comeback and is now in the NFL. True heart and character. We gave up on him but he never quit. Too bad you can't hear good stories on tv anymore...

I dunno where yall been, but "they"/people were always saying he wouldn't last in the SEC "running like he does" everyone also said he would not be a top draft pick. IIRC everyone was doubters of him until he won heisman and a NC and broke Emmit Smiths record. Then everyone bought into the whole "superman" thing. I like the commercial. Much better than the kid mnt. climbing anyway. TT was tha shhhhh.

Haven't seen the commercials, but I don't watch TV ads. If Tebow is playing the 'poor me' card then I'd say his moral compass is out of whack. Isn't dishonesty a sin in the minds of the overly religious?

"They" are his doubters. I don't fully know his football history before college, but he had his share of people who thought he couldn't do this, shouldn't do that, etc. In college, people questioned his skills until it started working. Going into the pros, experts didn't think he could be an NFL quarterback. The commercial is just saying he has used all the doubting to push himself to do what they say he couldn't. And so far, he has proven everyone wrong that has said he couldn't do something.
