He thought that he would win a NC this year at WV. Now that it can not happen, the time is right to move up.
I don't doubt that had an effect on his decision last year but why wouldn't the same thing effect his decision to go to Michigan?
Assuming...and this might be a big assumption...that White and Slaton are back next year he would be in pretty much the same position he was in this year...
And he isn't going to compete for a NC immediately at Michigan because he will have to implement his offense at a school that has been recruiting players that aren't meant for the spread offense....in particular the QB Mallet...
With that being said...I think the situations are basically identical...yet Rodriguez told Bama to hit the road and bolted for Michigan almost immediately after they came calling...
You gotta love it
Yeah, Fulmer's 1-3 career record against Saban, including this year's 41-17 massacre, really causes me to find humor in him being the Alabama coach instead of Rich Rodriguez.
Yeah, real shot. Hey, Alabama you ended up with a better coach than the first one you tried to hire. That's a great one. That'll show them.
I think it just says that the SEC is alot tougher than the BIG-10. He thought he would have a much better chance to win a NC at Michigan than Bama because he pretty much only has to win 1 tough game a year up there. At Bama, he gets Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Arky every year and not to mention Georgia and Florida ever so often. It was really a smart decision in the long run. It is, however, funny that he turned down Bama and jumped at the chance to coach Michigan.
