As per ESPN College Basketball Insider:

Scotty Hopson, Tennessee: Hopson was the best athlete and the most fluid player at the camp. In transition and off the bounce, Hopson made a bunch of highlight reel plays. But he can fool you if you are not watching closely. Hopson can be much better than he is right now, which is what you would expect of a junior that is still developing on a normal track toward being a really good player. Hopson still needs to influence the game on both ends and needs to concentrate harder on playing every play. He has it in him.

Pretty high praise, but sounds about right based on what we've seen about him. He definitely seems to have put in alot of work this summer. Hopefully he steps up next season on a team that should be "his" team.

Glad to read this. He's got great talent and potential. I think it's pretty obvious. I hope he can harness it better come basketball season.

It is so frustrating reading these kind of articles. We have all been excited about him and have had some great moments watching him be great. I went to the game at home against UK last year, and I think that was one of the top five moments I have ever experienced watching any UT sports when he buried that three in the final minute. However, if he could just get that consistency and be the B.A. we all know he has the potential to be. As we said last year: "Maybe this will be his breakout year"

Wow, I'm surprised that Jay Bilas, let alone ESPN, gave a UT player praise. Sounds like a fair assessment. I think it all comes down to his mindset. It seems like he plays harder when he hits his first few shots, but when he misses, he starts putting his head down, lazy defense, no hustle. He has to understand that even though he can't hit every shot, he still has to give 100% on every play. I know it's just Rocky Top, but he looked more motivated after getting back from the Paul Pierce and LeBron camps. He was attacking consistently, going up hard, and taking (and making) good jump shots. Like the review said, he has all the potential, but his head isn't on quite straight. I know that he knows what he needs to work on, and hopefully some of this monstrous work ethic shown by incoming freshmen Tobias Harris and Jordan McRae will rub off on him.

Let me tell you, about every 3 hours, Tobias or Jordan have Facebook statuses that say they're hitting up the gym or doing shooting drills. Here's a cool video, I recommend seeing it all the way through:

He has to show up this year and be dominant. Thats all there is to it.

Him not putting it all together (which no one can debate) does not equate to "not having his head on straight"

Chris, I didn't mean to attack you personally. I didn't quote you per se, but the spoken and unspoken theory that he's a quitter pisses me off. I think he's coming into it, some can do it in 1 year, some take 3. He has progressed from day 1, just not @ the pace we all (myself included) expected and wanted/want. The camp reports I've seen have been positive. That's a good thing. On the other hand, let's not "do it again" so to speak. I personally believe he will put it together, but I can understand why others wouldn't want to buy in to another experts take on it. I just don't like people calling him a quitter.(once again, not you)

Check out the rumor line on ESPN's basketball front page and let us know what it says about Fields. Something about how he will fit in,suggesting maybe a change in offensive philosphy.:)
