Saw this thread on the OB and thought it was an interesting topic. It would be a guy who didn't necessarily have all the 'stars' out of high school but absolutely performed at UT. Basketball or football allowed.

Reggie White was the low end of a package deal. I think he takes the cake. He was supposed to be the Nash Nance.

For total effect I'd say Dane Bradshaw.

Bradshaw was the Gatorade POY for Tennessee in 2003, AP All-State, McDonald's AA nominee, and a top 100 player by Basketball Times. I love the guy for his heart and effort and all, but I'd have to say he underachieved.

I like the thinking...prolly somebody that achieved alot like him or even Manning because to be honest, the leap to the HOF is the most difficult one in football no matter how many stars some recruiting geek gives you coming out of HS. It envolves more or at least as much work, practice and discipline as talent. JMO...

Here are some recent ones that come to mind:

Arian Foster--he was a 3 stat out of HS and I think he has the 2nd most rushing yards in UT history and is one of the best RBs and players in the NFL.

Denarius Moore--he was also a 3 star out of HS and thought to be the 2nd half of a package deal with Lennon Creer. He ended up being a heck of a receiver for UT and had a huge senior season. He's also doing well in the NFL as the number 1 receiver for the Raiders.

Nick Reveiz--he wasn't the most physically gifted guy to play for UT and is not playing in the NFL like the other two guys. But he got the most out of the talent he did have and ended up being a good LB for UT and a big-time leader for our defense and team as a whole. I wish we had a guy like him to lead our team every year.

I'm not saying they are the top over-achievers in the history of UT. They are just some of the recent ones who came to mind and were all very good players for UT.

Dane Bradshaw: Not highly regarded by most basketball pundits, but did quite well playing the Point-Forward position instead of the PG position where he was more comfortable. UT's Glue Guy during the halcyon days of UT basketball.

How about I say I don't think you could go wrong with any of those.

Not sure how Nick Reviez overacheived?? He was a decent player who played decent. Great guy in the locker room and off the field but on the field all I remember is him crying on one knee after he missed an easy tackle in the backfield against LSU.

At least he didn't get tears on both knees.
