Who is the biggest over-achieving Vol in history?

This is who I was going to say. He was a 3rd string tailback and led the SEC in rushing (not too shabby of an offensive line I might add).

Chris White was special; I'd forgotten about him.

JJ McClesky and Thomas "TD" Woods were special as well. TD lit it up at the NY Jets for a while.

I went to HS with TD. Great player!

i gotts go with juan smith in basketball.like somebody else mentioned before on this same thread a former walkon and a hellava bball player b4 he left..i think he got a lil too cocky at the end of his senior season though. football i would go with charles white myself or justin harrell who really was showing out his senior season while also playing with only one good arm..lightly recruited coming out of high school if not mistaken

I remember Frank Broyles freaking out when JP blazed past one of the Blades brothers[?], who had "world class speed"...

I wish I had counted how many times he mentioned that during the game. It might have actually meant more if we hadn't whipped them 35-7.

Dale Jones, Chris White and Daryl Dickey. Along with Tim McGee, they were the heart and soul of the '85 Sugar Vols, which truly deserve to be labeled as the most overachieving No. 4-ranked team in school history. The defense was porous as a sieve before Tony Robinson was lost to a season-ending injury; they then grew fangs and became one of the most rock-ribbed defensive squads in the country. The 1986 Sugar Bowl was their crowning achievement and remains, to this day, the single most inspired performance I have ever witnessed from a Tennessee foorball team.

The defense was not porous in the Auburn game. I was there; somebody knocked Bo Jackson out of it.

I will agree with you there; they played lights out vs. Auburn in the first half but gave up quite a few cosmetic points in the second half after the outcome was in hand. The defense gave up 75 points in the first three games (26, 20 and 29, respectively, against UCLA, Auburn and Wake Forest). There is no question, however, that the defense achieved an altogether higher level of consistent excellence after Robinson was injured against 'bama. Over the last seven games, including the Sugar Bowl, they gave up a total of only 34 points. See Tennessee Historical Scores.

Here are some recent ones that come to mind:

Arian Foster--he was a 3 stat out of HS and I think he has the 2nd most rushing yards in UT history and is one of the best RBs and players in the NFL.

Denarius Moore--he was also a 3 star out of HS and thought to be the 2nd half of a package deal with Lennon Creer. He ended up being a heck of a receiver for UT and had a huge senior season. He's also doing well in the NFL as the number 1 receiver for the Raiders.

Nick Reveiz--he wasn't the most physically gifted guy to play for UT and is not playing in the NFL like the other two guys. But he got the most out of the talent he did have and ended up being a good LB for UT and a big-time leader for our defense and team as a whole. I wish we had a guy like him to lead our team every year.

I'm not saying they are the top over-achievers in the history of UT. They are just some of the recent ones who came to mind and were all very good players for UT.

Fumble FUMBLE FUMBLE:cray:
