Who is the biggest over-achieving Vol in history?

Not sure if serious. If serious you better think about this again.

He was H. S. All American. He was regarded as something of an underachiever in his first three years at UT. In his senior season he absolutely exploded and was a consensus first team All-American.

Reggie's Jr year was pretty much a letdown after a solid SO season. 95T 61U 34A 8S 7TFL compared to 47T 36U 11A 7S 1TFL.

To me it has to be Daryl Dickey stepping in after Tony Robinson went down and not only salvaging the 1985 season but winning 1986 Sugar Bowl MVP after throttling Miami.

Mark Hovanic...

Anyone who ever knew Dale Jones would NEVER say that he overachieved...He worked harder than anyone that I've ever seen at being a FB player. His leadership grew out of his humble upbringing--and his success on the field was not accidental, but the product of a insatiable desire and a lot of hard work. GO VOLS!

Wish we had a few of him on today's team....maybe we do! :salute:

Dale Jones' teammate, Chris White, also deserves consideration here. A fifth-year senior, he didn't start until an injury-riddled secondary at the outset of the 1985 season gave him the opportunity to start against UCLA in the season opener. He responded with three interceptions and, for the season, amassed a nation-leading nine interceptions and achieved All-American honors. See UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Football.

Ah, you stole my thunder. He was an int machine!

Saw this thread on the OB and thought it was an interesting topic. It would be a guy who didn't necessarily have all the 'stars' out of high school but absolutely performed at UT. Basketball or football allowed.

JJ McCleskey. A walk-on who started at WR and CB for the Vols. A walk-on who spent 8 years in the NFL.

These are family traits for the Jones'!

You all dissapoint me. Al Wilson was a 2-star RB/FB coming out of high school. Became a all pro LB and probably was one of the best of all time if he hadn't had the career ending injury.

Wilson was a 4 star. Pretty sure...

Without a doubt it is mike Hamilton. He had no business being an athletic director and gets credit for being the ad when the championship was won.

Charles Morgan i think.Played Line Backer for Tennessee as a true freshman.Had around 20 tackles against Alabama in 1980.Him And Reggie White Played together At Howard High School.

It was Charles Morgan . However in no way was Reggie a throw in with Morgan . A s someone previously mentioned Reggie was a high school AA and Morgan wasn't . Reggie was also the number 1 recruit in Tennessee . I think Morgan quit after a year or two

Scott Galyon

I went to school with Scott Galyon, he basically WAS our team at Seymour. He was our starting quarterback and then was a hell of a Linebacker at UT! He gets my vote, because he wasn't even a linebacker when he went to college. He was just a naturally gifted footballer who could play wherever needed.

Travis Stephens for me hands down ... had no business being an SEC running back ... except for that SEC heart man

Difference in White and Jones . Chris was a scholarship player straight out of High school . Dale didn't have many offers I'm aware of and had to go the juco route . Both great guys and I consider both good friends. Dale was the over achieve because he wasn't suppose to be a college football player . His whole career was an over achievement .
