looking at these two, why would Smith be above Kolb?
Troy Smith Ohio State 10 237 158 66.7 2006 3 8.5 22 165.9
7. Kevin Kolb Houston 10 317 216 68.1 2852 3 9.0 22 164.7

No clue... every single one of Kolb's numbers are higher or equal to Smith's.

Kevin Kolb is a stud! This kid would be hands down the Heisman this year if he played for a big time conference!

Who understands QB rating?

Not I said the fly. Not me said the bee.

If Kevin Kolb played in a big time conference, his numbers wouldn't be close to what they are now.

I think he would, although on fewer attempts. Even his freshman year, when I got to see all the home games, he made plays with his arm. The o-line and recievers are not all that good, his acurracy and arm strength is as good or better than anything in the SEC, with one of the best deep balls Ive seen. Think Cutler, a player who can make a bottom dweller competative on his arm alone.

Cutler did well against SEC competition, week in and week out. Kolb is playing in C-USA. The one defense he actually faced, Miami, he only threw for 196, 0 TDs.

He had a good game against Ok. State, however, the Cowboys are only 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big XII.

That is laughable...

Smith has an easier job, throws it up to speed burners running against bad corners. The big 10 isn't exactly good on defense this year.

I guess it's just too bad then that good QBs can't exist outside the major confrences. Sucks for them huh realUT?

Did I say they couldn't exist? However, you are trying to argue that Kevin Kolb is a better QB than Troy Smith is this season. You are basing your argument upon statistics that Kolb has put up in C-USA against stats that Smith has put up in the Big Ten (and against Texas.)

Could Kolb be a good QB, certainly. Is he the best QB in the nation? No. Is he better than Troy Smith? No.

Ask Timmy Chang exactly what happens to QBs in weak conferences who put up amazing numbers...

When did I mention Troy Smith other that just asking how he had a higher QB rating (a question tidwell answered for me). I said SEC and I said AS GOOD or better. And what your argument lacks is the understanding that a QBs stats are also a product of his teams receivers and the other teams Secondary. Peyton Manning would be hard pressed to throw TDs at a C-USA school with a crappy O-Line and Bad Receivers against a top 10 defense.
