Who was the better hire?

This topic was brought up on the Sunday sports tv talk show.

One of those guys mentioned that Barnes fell into our laps, that the Tyndall fiasco made that one a no brainer, where with CTV they actually had to find him, and it looks great now but it was risk.

We have had good but not great basketball teams before Barnes but I had no idea we even had a baseball team until Vitello. I mean Delmonico back in the 90s and early 00s was good IIRC but cant think of us every doing much besides that.

Vietello and it's not even close.

Vitello is already the best major sports coach on campus, probably the best coach period on campus.

He appears to be a truly generational coach. He's already a program-changing and conference-changing coach.

Oh, and he's quite young with plenty of his best coaching years ahead of him.

Both are great hires, but from a money standpoint my guess is that basketball brings in more money. Hate to make it that simple, but it's still a business and cash is king.

From a nationwide competitiveness standpoint, Tennessee has been THE dominant team in a fickle game for 2 of the past 3 seasons. I wasn't a baseball fan until March of '22 when I got Covid (the only thing I can remember fondly about the pandemic). Now I LOVE IT!!!

Tony has brought a ton of attention to Vols Baseball. His impact has been immense.
