true...it was like having The Beaver on the roster when you recruited Wally.

I think Omar Gaither is somewhat overratted.

Omar Gaither? He was all over the field the last 2 years. I just cant agree with that. Gaither was underrated if anything because of Simon and Burnett.

I have to go with QB on this one. Gaither was a stud who was overshadowed by guys with bigger names (i.e. Simon, Mahelona, Allen, Harylson, Burnett).

Dirk Borgonne (sp) Anybody remember the kicker with the bionic leg?

At the Peach Bowl after the '87 season, I saw him miss the net they use on the sidelines during warmups. I have never seen anyone, before or since, shank a football that bad. It was like they guy at the driving range who hits the guy next to him in the leg.

Wasn't that the kid that hit the 67 yarder in high school.

Eric Parker was a bust at UT for sure. Although he is starting in the NFL he was never a top 3 WR at UT.
He was a dependable punt returner for sure. Don't recall him ever fumbling one unlike the butterfingers that we had this year.

Brian Darden is the biggest bust ever. Huge recruit, gets on campus, and looks like he's never seen the field before.

Randy Sanders. I mean, did he ever actually get any game time to fine tune his outstanding offensive mind?

Since the topic didn't specify BB or FB, I am going to throw out the name of that seven footer from Knoxville: DOUG ROTH!

You mean you didn't like having a 7 footer who liked to pop out and shoot 3s and flip the bird to the opposing crowd?

i tend to think he's one of the guys that we failed to identify as top talent and develp him...just as with David Martin. JMO.

The 2005 recieveing core and throw Gerald [Heisman hopeful] Riggs in there as well. He wasn't even the best back on the team.

From Shelbyville.

I went to high school with Clemons McCroskey (Shelbyville is correct). He was a freaking monster. 6'2" 235lb with low 4.6 speed. Perfect size for a smash mouth fullback who could also make the big run. And he was smashmouth when he ran, just not when he blocked. Of course he wasn't asked to block then and when he got to UT he didn't want to when they moved him to FB. Damn shame. Wasted talent. His senior year the team went undefeated and got knocked out of the playoffs by a team led by Shazzon Bradley! Bradley was a madman and crushed people all night. Shelbyville had four other running backs/linebackers on the team who were actually better than McCroskey. But they all made some super sorry decisions. One got tossed in jail for drugs and another went to junior college only to beat up his head coach. None of them took the time to make a decent grade to warrant any scholarship offers. And that same phenomenon keeps repeating itself in every high school across the US every year. Talent wasted...

Great inside info. He and Dustin Moore were two Tennessee boys in about the same era that had the God given talent to have had great college and pro careers but squandered the opportunity.
