I am reserving judgment on the hiring of Lane Kiffin.

His greatest strength, arguably, is his ability to recruit. I'm curious, however, how he will fare this late in the recruiting season.

Getting Jarvis Giles would be great, but who does everybody think will be Kiffin's first "get" on his own?

I believe Giles will come back soon, but as for landing someone who hasn't committed before, Marlon Brown would be my guess.

maybe silently but not publicly. I see him being like Julio last year. Takes all his visits but knows that he'll be a Vol in the end.

we could probably attract some players that didn't even have UT on their radar. Like UNC and Marvin Austin. Really anything can happen if Orgeron is coming. It's just a wait and see thing right now.

If top Hawaii players start coming to UT I will be talking serious recruiting smack to bammers

If Monte Kiffin truly is coming, I would think quite a few defensive players would consider UT, for the simple fact that he could certainly get players NFL-ready technique-wise.

I am very curious about his OC hire, however. I would hope he isn't calling plays himself. He never even had that sole responsibility at USC.

NEW QUESTION:

When/How long until Kiffin gets his first committment (other than previous decommittments)?

I think if Eric Gordon is contacted by Kiffin, he is ready to pull the trigger. At first, he appeared to have dropped us but has since declared it a UT/Bama final. Bama probably isn't going to have room for him anyways. I believe after Marlon Brown, Eric Gordon is the state's top uncommitted prospect and we need him. I say by Wednesday at 6 p.m. Kiffin will land somebody good.

Pete Carroll said to the SportsAnimal that Kiffin was instrumental in developing the offense, and that he called a ton of the plays.

With the Tajh Boyd de-commit news today, the answer to the proposed question had better be a QB.

The Boyd news seems especially curious considering QB play was so god-awful this year that just about any decent recruit would be an upgrade.

Called it the day Kiffin was hired, before he even talked to Gordon. Just had a feeling that this kid had been left out and was ready for some lovin'. CLK poured it on, and like clockwork, first commit!
