If a 4 team playoff was in place this season, who would be in, and where would they be seeded? Who would be left out?

....
1. Notre Dame vs. 4. Oregon
2. Alabama vs. 3. Florida

I believe thats how it would work.

So only 1 conference champion? Not sure K-State doesn't bump Oregon based on winning their conference.

4 team playoff would be a joke. Must have 16 teams in a playoff. 4 rounds would take 4 weeks and consist of 15 games. You could still use the bowl games for the playoff, and for consolation games for those teams that didn't make the playoffs. This would, however mean fewer teams going to bowl games, but would save us from watching two 6-6 teams meet in a meaningless game.

The playoff system, no matter which way you slice it (4, 8, 16 team) is going to be just as much of a joke as the current BCS system; however, the playoff system will be a joke at the expense of the ultimate value of each game in the regular season.

Notre Dame vs Kansas State, and Alabama vs Florida, IMO. I think Kansas State would get in over Oregon, because they won their league.

And, I completely disagree with anyone who believes a playoff devalues the regular season. In reality, the result will be a lot more meaningful regular season games than there are now. I am hoping it expands to 8.

IF the BCS isnt alive anymore.. four best teams in the country

1) Tennessee.. ah nevermind

1) Alabama vs 4) Notre Dame
2) Florida vs 3) Georgia

Even with two loses, its hard to put oregon or kstate over georgia when georgia had to play one more game, and that one more game happened to be vs the best team in the country

This. There is no way to do a fair playoff. Too many teams.

I agree with this above although I still think Oregon could take ND.

As far as the playoff system goes, I think only the conference champs should be in the playoffs and let it go from there. Conference reorganization would be needed though to make it an even system though. i.e. 16 or 8 eligible conferences

if you watched all the conference championship games, minus the SEC they were all played in half empty stadiums . So they basically are anyway
