Who would you rather draft for QB out of

If I were the Lions I would try like hell to move down. I don't think they will but neither guy is a #1 pick in my opinion. They need so much help that I would rather have quantity over quality when it comes to the picks they have in this draft.

I don't like UGA, but Stafford

Not comfortable w/ Sanchez since his main risings in the draft are a combination of:

1) one really good game against Penn St (who was completely mismatched and beaten up by USC anyway)

and 2) all the other good/great college qbs stayed another year, making him 2nd on the list of qbs, and for whatever reason there's some idea out there that 2nd best qb available, he must also be or become a top 10 (or 12) pick...

They're not looking at Sanchez at all. Lions have said at this point it's between Stafford, Jason Smith, and that linebacker Curry from Wake.

Yeah, they do have a lot of needs. But who's actually going to give them what the 1st pick is actually worth? Noone's going to want to give them alot at this point. Too much to give up, no guaranteed future all-star / gamebreaker up there, and whoever the new team picks they are going to have to sign for a whole lot of money

and since they already have another 1st round pick too, feels unlike someone would trade them another one...

I'd consider Stafford in the middle of the first round. Sanchez hasn't sold me just yet. The fact that Stafford will probably go #1 just blows my mind. His college numbers were inferior to Ainge's.
Nate Davis is the guy I believe will be the best pro in three years.

If forced to choose between the two, it would be Sanchez without a doubt....

However, if I were the Lions....

1) Since it is pretty much a given that they are going to suck again this year and get another top 3 pick, I would take Jason Smith from Baylor with the top pick and wait until next year to get a QB. Sure up the offensive line first, that way your rookie QB won't get killed in his first season.

2) Sam Bradford (more than likely he will enter the draft after this season) and Colt McCoy will both be available in next year's draft, which you could almost be certain to get one of the two with your first pick.

3) Give some thought into taking Aaron Curry with the 1st overall pick and get a good lineman later in the 1st round with their second pick.

4) Don't take the pick. Do like the Vikings did a few years ago, and just don't pick until around 7th or 8th. Doing this will not force you to spend $40 mil guaranteed on a guy that hasn't played a snap in the NFL and that you have questions about. Andre Smith could be available around 7th or 8th, and maybe Brandon Pettigrew with their 2nd pick in the 1st round.

Just my scenarios, the latter of which albeit far fetched, may be the best scenario.

frankly, i don't think either one will be all that great when all is said and done.

at least stafford has 4 years under his belt and has raw tools to work with.

Sanchez has one year, one ok year, and probably has the most development left to do.

kind of a down year for me as far as qb's go.

I agree, which brings me back to my earlier post about scenarios Detroit could take.

Stafford is one of the most overrated QB's in the last few years. He isn't even 1st round material, let alone 1st pick. All Stafford's got is a big arm, with 0 accuracy.

Sanchez, while I wouldn't take him with a first overall pick, is a better, more well rounded player than Stafford by a mile.

To be honest, if I were the Lions GM, I'd trade down for an extra 1st round pick or two and build depth on the offensive line. That's the most important part of a football team.

Trick question, the Lions will draft a WR like they always do :eek:lol:

In all reality if I were them I'd trade the pick to get a proven NFL QB because they don't have time to develop one.
