Who's in your ideal rotation?

How deep will/would you go?

Scenario: Graves, Russell and Diamond are in foul trouble?

First scenario Graves, second Russell, third Diamond,
fourth Graves and Russell, fifth Graves and Diamond, sixth Diamond and Russell, and lastly Diamond, Graves and Deshields are in foul trouble.

I like a starting 5 of Carter, Deshields, Nared, Graves, Russell... with cooper Dunbar, Jackson, and Middleton getting mins. Reynolds is a little Shaky right now.

ideal ? I'd take Candace Parker, Diana T, EDD, Kelly Jolly, kayla McBride and play all comers. :)

ps: with Brittany Jackson, Skylar Diggens(sp?) the ex NDamer, and Ace Clement added just to give the old eyeballs a workout.

I believe we should only go about 8 deep!

My starters based on what I have seen and feel would give us the best chance to win would be;

PG(1)-Cooper SG(2)-Carter SF(3)-Diamond PF(4)-Nared C(5)-Graves
Backups
6.)G-Middleton (Reynolds and Jackson would split with Middleton based on who is playing the best when inserted)
7.)F-Jones (Dunbar would play if we have a big lead or need some outside shooting) 8.)C-Russell(She would only start during conference play when we play South Carolina because I think she needs to be aggressive and want it more she is the only player who has started all season and with Nia not playing I feel she has become complacent knowing or believing that she is irreplaceable)

I know it isn't going to happen but I feel this is the best unit (the five starters I mentioned) that I have seen play together

I don't see the rationale for starting our most turnover-prone player at PG, someone who's afraid to shoot at SG, and a wing as one of the posts.

Cooper plays better on the floor with Diamond and Carter, Nared also plays better next to Graves and Diamond. Cooper isn't afraid to score either and that's what you need from one of your starting guards, Carter is doing great against guards who aren't that good offensively but when we face guards who can score we will need more offensive production out of her. Cooper is turnover prone because of the emphasis of getting it to the post. I have yet to see any guard she's played against stop her from getting to the rim. She is also just a freshman and will have some growing pains but she will continue to improve. We have seen all we will get from Carter and Reynolds and many teams play their scoring guard on the ball (to get it past have court) only to give it to their off guard to run the offense which is essentially what you would be getting.

Russell's skill set has always been more finesse, and not the banger center we are used to having on our roster. Not sure if people were misinformed or not aware, but this is Russell. She is a great asset. We are not going to see that 'banger mentality' out of her this season, but rather glimpse of it. I do feel/believe/think that she will be similar to Izzy in the regard of progression. This is her sophomore season with us, and her potential is SCARY good.

Russell, Graves, Nared, Diamond, Carter hands down.

Reynolds/Middleton played 'solid' for our bench last night. If they can bring that each game. Cooper is learning how to play Division I basketball from high school still, will be fine. Dunbar has to learn to box out. Jones athleticism needs to be in the post on defense as far as this season goes. Play Jackson as she is currently being used.

I don't care if she plays everybody but she shouldn't have Jackson, Middleton, Reynolds, Dunbar, and Nared in there all at once.
Three of the starters which I consider Carter, Deshields, Russell, Graves, and Nared should be in there at all times during the game.
That last three minutes of the first half was scary with all those subs in getting whipped in every way as they got withing seven and almost got it down to five.
I think you sub out Russell and Carter for Cooper and Dunbar. After their rest you bring them back in and sub out Graves and Nared. Then Deshields.
I'd like to see three starters in there at all times.

So Cooper for Carter, Dunbar for Russell, Dunbar stays in as Russell comes back and
Graves sits, then Middleton for Deshields, and Jackson for Nared.

I really like the starting line-up that Holly went with- Graves, Russell, Nared, Carter, and DeShields. I think that is the core of the team for this season. Beyond that fouls, injuries, and match-ups will dictate who comes in and out.

Tea will obviously be one of the first off the bench to spell Carter. Jordan looks better when she is not saddled with the PG duties. Middleton is showing some real positives. I will be interesting to see if she can also deliver some positive offense against more athletic defenders than Mizzou. I am not as excited about Dunbar. She was 1-4 against Mizzou and 1-6 against Stetson from beyond the arc. Her rep as knock down shooter exceeds what she is actually delivering. I think Nared, Middleton, Cooper, and maybe even Jackson can provide at least 20% shooting from outside and they don't present the defensive liabilities. I hope Jasmine is able to come back this season from her concussion.

Is there any update on Jones' condition? If she's going to apply for a hardship waiver for another redshirt year, they'll have to make that decision this week.

I would absolutely try to get another redshirt year for Jones. Why? Because the Vols will need her more next year--when Graves is gone--than we will this year. The team will need her badly, in fact, so i would most definitely try for another waiver. If we had a good power forward on the bench as a freshman or coming in, it would be different--but we don't, and right now the Vols will be super thin inside next year. We have three inside players for next year--Russell, a starter; Dunbar, who plays a little and is not exactly a typical big; and Moore, who has played very little. It is a b-a-d situation because our coaches dropped the ball on recruiting the last two years. We brought in two guards last year/this year--no bigs--and have zero recruits for next year.

I believe they would have to apply for a hardship waiver to get a second redshirt year for Jones, so it's not a slam dunk that it would be granted.

Is it official that Moore is going to apply for a redshirt? That decision would have to be made this week as well. Medical redshirts aren't granted for someone who's played after the halfway point in the season, which is after the next game.

Fine

I"ll take Lisa Leslie, Tamika Catchings, Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes and Dena Head...

ps. with Sue Bird, Alexis Hornbuckle, Bridgette Gordon

Thanks for that tidbit. I didn't know it was so close. Nothing so far for Moore, but it looks like the best option for a thin post next year.

The goal here isn't to make Cooper play well, it's to make the team play well. That requires a PG who isn't a turnover machine. She turns the ball over due to ill-advised drives into multiple defenders. She needs better judgement as to when to drive, pass, or shoot at the D-I level. I'm sure that will come with time, but she's not there yet.

Personally, I'd like to see Middleton get more time at PG. She's got the best court vision and BB IQ of any of our guards. Her defense has improved considerably, she's finding her shot, and she gives 110% effort on the floor.

Jordan Reynolds minutes, should be given to Meme and Middleton to see what they can do. But Holly is patient, she waiting for the light to click on for Reynolds. She has no confidence. Come on Reynolds, we need you.

I agree, she is the only one playing like a guard, wish she used that floater in the lane rather than taking it all the way in for a layup. Yes, I would like to see her get more minutes, even against athletic teams, I think she's a smart player, a competitive player she'll figure out how to guard opposing guard, first you have to want too and I think she has that.

Middleton
Deshields
Nared
Graves
Russell

I would like to see them play together more too. Carter looks like she is getting comfortable in role too, which could be a good thing, and she looked confident in her shots. Push her Middleton.

As it looks right now, you probably won't see Jas anymore this season. They'll likely apply for a medical hardship waiver. Which would likely be granted. As for Moore, that also looks like a redshirt, but it won't happen because Holly will start her for five minutes on senior. Then that would be the end of her career at UT.

I like a 7 player rotation.

PG - Middleton, Cooper
SG - Deshields, Carter
SF - Nared, Deshields
PF - Graves, Nared
C - Russell, Graves

Dunbar, Jackson and Reynolds can play garbage minutes until they can contribute more consistently.

In both on these players cases, they will take it, cos both have aspiration of playing in the league.

We thought it would be Nared and Moore at the beginning of the season, with Jones hurt, its might be both Jones and Moore.

Jones with her second concussion, might not want to play anymore tho and that will hurt more than anything else.

I can see Nia being ok with a redshirt.
