The three front runners for the GOP nomination are Romney, Bachmann, and Perry.

Romney passed a health care law with an individual mandate. And he's a stiff.

Bachmann touts being against government spending, but has taken subsidies for a family farm and is on record seeking stimulus money for six local projects. Plus she has crazy eyes.

Perry is basically channeling George W. Bush. Its freakin' eerie. Plus he wears his religious fervor on his sleeve.

Despite the fact that the economy is in terrible shape and there is a malaise and frustration in the country that harkens back to the early 70's, current polls show Obama beating EACH of the three of them, over Romney by a point, over Perry by five points, and over Bachmann by six points.

And, Obama hasn't even yet begun spending his enormous war chest for reelection and the GOP candidates are getting all the air time. GOP needs another candidate. This bunch just isn't very appealing.

Contrasting the appeal to the current situation clears the mud.

Obama better be gratefully for the millions he has to spend. He has nothing else to run on.

why do you care who the GOP nominates, LG? You almost act as though you're planning to be "undecided" when you walk into the polling place in 2012.

It is interesting to me that, with a Dem POTUS who has high negatives, with a super-motivated conservative base, record deficits, and with an economy threatening to go into double dip territory, the GOP has trotted out one of the weakest fields in memory.

Where are the revered statesmen? The wise and experienced leader who can stand firm when needed, compromise when advisable, and with a calming and soothing presence? Instead of that, we are given Obama light, Bush II, and a shrill freak show.

It is astounding that no one with any gravitas has entered the race for the GOP.

That's because virtually the entire gop field is a bunch of lightweight noise boxes.

Too bad guys like Gary Johnson aren't taken more seriously. Not that he is perfect or anything, but he has a lot more sense than any of the front runners.

Just goes to show that my theory that there is next to no real difference in practice between the dems and the reps, just a difference in the rhetoric. Virtually all of Obama's policies are just a continuation of the Bush years. Ignore what they say, look at what they do.

(ps - I do know there are a couple of major policy differences, but that does not change the fact that there are dozens of more similarities.)
