The woman who rented the car in which four Tennessee Vols were arrested New Year's Day is out to clear up any mystery and says there's no worry of any NCAA violations being behind the rental.
Cameron Tatum, Tyler Smith, Melvin Goins, and Brian Williams were all arrested just before noon on New Year's Day. Each was charged with possession of a gun with intent to go armed, and Smith and Williams were charged with altering a weapon's serial number. Goins and Williams were charged with possession of pot.
But one mystery behind the whole arrest has been just where the players got the car they were driving.
It was a rental, and not to any of them.
Monday, 10News first reported the name on the rental contract behind that car as Theresa Dixon, based on a verbal statement of that name.
The renter of that car is now publicly identified as Teresa Dixon, as she has retained the counsel of Knoxville attorney T. Scott Jones in the matter.
Knoxville Police plan to interview Dixon on Wednesday, based on her availability.
But in the meantime, Dixon's attorney Jones says there's no NCAA violation at play here, and little mystery.
Jones said Teresa Dixon's own car broke down, so she rented the Dodge Charger from the Clinton Highway Enterprise Rental location on December 29.
Jones said she let her daughter use the car, and her daughter let Tyler Smith borrow it.
Jones said there is no NCAA violation at play here--some had speculated the rental car may have been provided for the players by some supporter of the team. Jones said that's just not the case.
Jones said Dixon's daughter is in her 20s but is not a student at the University of Tennessee.
I think this is the latest story.
