I'll admit, I didn't watch the game. I've been sick all week, and a 2AM dose of nyquil bricked me through my alarm, so I didn't tune into ESPN3 until the 2nd overtime, but I was confused looking at the box score and seeing the threads that were popping up.

If somebody told me we'd have 28 points in regulation with just one turnover, I'd give you a pretty damn good chance we win.

Take a step back, look at the season. The only reasonable conclusion one can come to is that 99% of the failings this season, and with this game, fall squarely on the shoulders of the defense. I went back and looked through as many years of stats and records as I could find, and while I'm not in a mood to copy down what I found, I feel very confident in saying this years defense is the worst Tennessee has ever fielded since the invention of the forward pass.

Not too far shy of 600 yards, 4TD passes, over 5 YPC for our three guys who had more than 4 carries, one turnover.

Looking at this season, and this game, any conclusion other than the defense being almost the sole source of all this team's troubles is damned lunacy.

All that said, I'll be surprised if Dooley is still the HFC come Monday afternoon.

The offense and for that matter the defense played a almost flawless "First Half"...except too many penalties.

Second half...just a meltdown on both sides but mainly the Defense. Bray had over 257 yrds the first half...aboutslightly under half that in the second in regulation play. First play Mizou had in the second half was a 77yd run for a TD...that pretty much summed up everything.

The offense needs to stay on the field longer on crucial drives to give our D a rest, keep the opponent's offense off the field (because we can't stop them), and to eat clock. Too many 3 and outs when we could put teams away.

I looked into the drive charts, and I understand what happens, but the bottom line is this: 28 points with one turnover against that offense and we still lose, and the blame falls squarely and completely on the defense. There's no way around it.

We were behind on TOP by less than a minute.

If the defense had gotten a stop during the second half, they would have been fine.

The Vols D should have been completely rested starting the second half...they were barely on the field in the first half. So, the idea that the second half defensive collapse was due to a tired defense makes no sense.

If the D wants to get some rest, then make some 2nd half stops.

You're spot on.... The D put up token resistance in the 2nd half..... The were horrible.....absolutely horrible
