Dobbs played a great game yesterday for his first start. It's not his fault josh smith can't catch the damn ball. It's not his fault the D doesn't know how to rap up and is slow as molasses. It's not his fault the O-line got no push yesterday and we couldn't run the ball. Dobbs had the most completions by a UT freshman in his 1st start, and you got people in here saying "you now know why he didn't start". Man I wasn't even on the Dobbs bandwagon till last night. He was the only one that came to play. If anyone is dissing Dobbs and blaming the loss on Dobbs you're an idiot.

I totally agree! He played well and will continue to improve. He and Palardy where the bright spots in a horribly played game. Go Vols!

Dobbs looked pretty good at times last night. What VN is forgetting is the coaching staff stated just 3-4 weeks ago that beither freshmen was near ready for SEC play. Dobbs will be a good one but his play shows the staff was spot on. He would not be playing if JW was not injured.

I do not think any one is down on Dobbs but the reality is he is a freshman and we will be lucky to get 6 wins with him starting.

I thought he played well at times and bad at others which is to be expected from a freshman

Did you even watch the same game as the rest of us?

OP, you asked, "Why are people down on Dobbs?"

It's simple, people are idiots and they allow "hope" to cloud their judgement.

Then they use those false hopes and convince themselves that UT (with Dobbs in the game) was just as good as Bama in the 2nd half. And if UT was just as good as Bama with Dobbs at QB then Mizzou should be no problem.

To compound their idiot thinking they look at the Mizzou vs. USC game to "strengthen" their conviction.

Now, after the reality of the true FR's 1st start these idiots have to justify this somehow and the easy answer is to get down on Dobbs.

That is correct he was 3rd on the depth chart for a reason.

Could you really not tell that he is much better than Worley?

The ones on here that were saying prior to the game that Dobbs was our savior are the idiots. The realistic people understood the struggles he was going to go through and based their expectations accordingly.

To expect a freshman QB to go on the road in his first start and get a win is unrealistic.

No, at this point Worley is better. I see Dobbs has a tremendous amount of talent and could develop into an outstanding QB. He showed a weak arm and inmaturity last night. He is an extremely smart kid, he will learn from the mistakes he made last night.

I think Dobbs played as expected - great effort w/ some freshman mistakes. I'd still like to see RF out there (in due time), then I'll be ready to hang my hat on a QB.

All backup quarterbacks are the second-coming of Joe Montana until the fans actually see them play. Dobbs flaws were on full display last night, which means that that Riley Ferguson is the new Armchair QB's choice!

Dobbs shows great promise and potential, but he undoubtedly looked like a Freshman last night. Yet, I'm more optimistic about his long-term upside after that game. He's shown he can throw the ball, and scramble. His made several mistakes, though, and his receivers made even more. With experience, he's going to get better and the WRs will get better, as well.

Still think Worley is the best QB we have right now in spite of his significant flaws. But ... I could see Dobbs potentially beating him out for the starting job next year.

What came out of the game was we know who our future at QB is- Dobbs. What we really hated to to see was a Defense that needs improving drastically in many areas. CBJ has got one of the toughest rebuilding jobs in America. Not sure a highly ranked recruiting class is going to change this around going into next season. This will take a few years to get right, not sure some Vol fans have that kind of patience. But no matter who you bring in they would be facing the same thing. 3+ yrs and a lot of luck. May not make a Bowl this season, but many of us know this will turn around, just got to get behind this team and staff and support them. And yes, Dobbs is far better than Worley, the kids needs more PT and experience.

Which is why there will be a whole lot of Dobbs bashing. Quite a few are dead set on a different QB being the future and will pick the kid apart. It's the agenda.

I do not think Worley is better, and thought Dobbs played well.

Dobbs>>>Worley. I do not see how anyone can think differently.

Weak arm? If anything he has too much zip on his passes and overthrew receivers downfield, something JW NEVER could do. The interception he threw was due to being hit on the arm as he was throwing.
Immaturity? I thought he showed great poise considering the circumstances and never blamed his receivers when they dropped passes. He even patted himself on the chest when he made mistakes and owned up to them.

Bottom line- I thought Dobbs was very promising last night. He was facing a top-10 team on the road with an offensive line that couldn't block while getting blitzed 60% of the time.

A weak arm? That is the last thing that I would say about Dobbs! If Dobbs has a weak arm, then how would you classify Worley's arm strength?
