Why are people down on Dobbs?

Its easy to see Dobbs has a greater ceiling than JW. Outside of a couple of mistakes I thought he played good. He's more accurate and has a stronger arm dropped passes are not his fault. Dobbs will only get better as the season goes on I think CBJ needs to build his confidence and the fan base needs to back off and let the kid learn it's not like were playing for a NC this is a rebuilding year.

We need to get off the freshman thing. We may struggle to win 6 games, but it will be because of lack of talent. Manziel and Winston were and are not hurting their teams in their freshman years.

Both of those players are red shirt freshman they have had a full year to learn the system and mature.

Had a couple picks and a fumble. The first pick I don't blame him so much...on the road under pressure trying to make a play, it happens.

The second one was pretty bad...a clear case where he should have thrown the ball away instead or tucked and ran.

The fumble...I don't know, was watching live in the end zone, didn't get a good look at it but I would guess he tried too hard. Should have just gone down and protected the ball.

Other than the turnovers I mostly liked what I saw. He won't always be a true frosh starting his first game on the road against a top SEC team (starting RIGHT NOW lol and I am sure he will learn to protect the ball better.

I think Dobbs did good. He made a few freshman mistakes but nothing that can't be corrected. His first interception he was under pressure and tried to force a ball instead of throwing it away. The fumble he tried to make an extra effort instead of going out of bounds. The third interception he tried to throw a deep ball instead of choosing the correct read in the flats. Nothing that won't and can't be fixed.

They'd also both redshirted the year before and were in their second season under the same coach.

Not even remotely similar.

I was at the game last night, and I was very impressed with the kid's knowledge, skills, and ability. Yes, he made some turnovers, but I thought he was trying to make plays to get his team going. He had zero support from the other 10 players last night. Dobbs has great intangibles and skill set. He will be a good one for UT if Jones can further develop him.

A weak arm? That is the last thing that I would say about Dobbs! If Dobbs has a weak arm, then how would you classify Worley's arm strength?

The first int Dobbs pass was under thrown, he was under pressure on that one. The deep ball he threw for the int was way under thrown. To me he has a weird throwing motion. I stated that to my wife in first quarter last night. I am not knocking Dobbs. I see a tremendous amount of talent and think he could develope into a very good qb. He is a freshman and not an early enrollee on top of that. He has worked very little with the team because of that. He made freshman mistakes that he can correct.

I see no problem with Workey's arm strenght or his throwing motion. He has an accuracy problem. Dobbs problems will be much easier for the coaching staff to correct.

Again, Dobbs should've had 100 yds more passing and 2 tds on 2 throws. Still don't know if North had a seizure or something.

Dobbs looked pretty good at times last night. What VN is forgetting is the coaching staff stated just 3-4 weeks ago that beither freshmen was near ready for SEC play. Dobbs will be a good one but his play shows the staff was spot on. He would not be playing if JW was not injured.

And he played better than Worley did in any game this yr from a stat standpoint. Of course he made mistakes but he is a true fr.

OK- did Ainge redshirt?

Ainge had upperclassman WRs and RBs to rely on. And a defense that could actually stop good teams.

Guys, we are undermanned or inexperienced at just about every position. We have a new coaching staff installing a completely different system than what most of the roster was recruited to play in. This is not a recipe for a true frosh QB to come out amd put up Heisman worthy stats. That's just all there is to it.

Dobbs played pretty good despite a few turnovers. He got very little help from anyone other than North and Pig. The OL played like donkey butt and kept commuting false starts amd holds which didn't help.

No, at this point Worley is better. I see Dobbs has a tremendous amount of talent and could develop into an outstanding QB. He showed a weak arm and inmaturity last night. He is an extremely smart kid, he will learn from the mistakes he made last night.

A weak arm???? If Dobbs has a weak arm then what does Worley have? Dobbs flipped his wrist and fired a 50 yd touchdown bomb to North, but North lost the ball in the lights. Dobbs has not played against Austin Peay,Western Kentucky,South Alabama or played at home. He has played his first six quarters against #1 Alabama & #9 Missouri, & has thrown 31-54 for 315 yards & some good rushing yds.

I think he lost the ball in the lights or something. He is a true frosh as well after all.

You made my point
There are posts that saying because Dobbs is a freshman then that will keep us from getting to 6 wins. I am saying that talent will prevent us from getting there if we don't. People are just so quick to say that because someone is a freshman then that will hurt us.

Dobbs hasn't had any. Warm up games like Austin Peay or South Alabama, or had a chance to have a look at a full game worth of tape.. Not to mention his WR made some mistakes throughout the game yesterday.. He will progress he is only 18.. It's all about progression
