Why are people down on Dobbs?

There is a wide, wide gap from hs football to the SEC! In time he will get better, but for right now the coach was right 3 weeks ago that Josh is not ready.

Dobbs played a great game yesterday for his first start. It's not his fault josh smith can't catch the damn ball. It's not his fault the D doesn't know how to rap up and is slow as molasses. It's not his fault the O-line got no push yesterday and we couldn't run the ball. Dobbs had the most completions by a UT freshman in his 1st start, and you got people in here saying "you now know why he didn't start". Man I wasn't even on the Dobbs bandwagon till last night. He was the only one that came to play. If anyone is dissing Dobbs and blaming the loss on Dobbs you're an idiot.

No blaming him nor am I down on him, he played like a freshman QB in his first start against good competition. Dobbs has a lot of potential, but the three turnovers, and multiple penalties must be corrected if UT wants two beat KY and Vandy. That's why Worley has been starting all season.

Worley was starting because he was the only qb with college football experience and he had to start him, from an experience and leadership standpoint, especially while implementing an entirley new system/program. Dobbs wasn't ready on august. He's ready now. Accuracy on short and timing throws was holding Dobbs back early in camp and he will still be working on it for awhile.

What are these multiple penalties by Dobbs you speak of? You typed and as if it wasn't the off line full of uperclassmen guilty of false starts.

You made my point
There are posts that saying because Dobbs is a freshman then that will keep us from getting to 6 wins. I am saying that talent will prevent us from getting there if we don't. People are just so quick to say that because someone is a freshman then that will hurt us.

Worley was steady if nothing else, beating Vandy and KY would be no problem for him with Dobbs, I'm not so sure.

so hopeless that he made good decisions and clutch throws to beat a top 15 ranked team...first time in 4 years...but we were hopeless...STFU

He threw up prayers, Marquez North answered them. Proud of Worley's toughness, but if his so called "clutch" throws were about as clutch as Eli Manning hitting David Tyre...

if you can't tell who has the better skill right now, pick up another sport because your eyes don't understand this one. Dobbs has thrown as many good passes and hit as many receivers in the numbers in 2 games on the road against the best team and another top 10 team as a true freshman with an OL getting shoved around than Worley threw this year prior to his injury. He also surpassed his rushing total for the year.

I think (or at least hope) everyone realizes that Dobbs is faster, has more arm strength, and has better deep ball accuracy. He has much higher potential in our offense. I think he played pretty well, or at least as well as could be expected with the amount of time he had.

Still, though, I think Worley is a better game manager, and if he were healthy, he would probably have fewer turnovers, and the OL might have played better making this a better game (but still a huge loss because of the defense). I believe this because of the uncharacteristically high shotgun snaps to Dobbs on basically every play in the first half as well as the false starts. But, the OL may just be demotivated or something, I dunno. Either way, it's not Dobbs' fault, and I think he'll be a good QB for UT in the future (even as soon as next week, though Auburn will be tough).

No. Neither did, Crompton, Schaeffer, Clausen, Banks or Stewart. All looked much better than Dobbs, as true freshmen, at QB :shaking2:

Crompton redshirted, Clausen didnt have to play a decent team until the Cotton Bowl, Schaeffer barely played - much less on the road, James Banks wasn't half of what Dobbs was yesterday in his 1 game against Georgia, and Brandon Stewart apparently only knew 2 plays.

Ainge was up and down, typical freshman. Be patient with Dobbs, he has crazy talent but there will be lumps. But the past freshman experiences are blinded to you bc of how bad our defense is, and how poor our running game has become. If Dobbs had Little man Stewart, Travis Henry, or Gerald Riggs - it's a completely different story.

pretty accurate. We are just past the game manager point right now, imo. We suck too bad at other positions, not to try and maximize what we get from the qb position.

Trying to stay in bounds with us getting near the red zone with the seconds winding down in the first half. Ok, you'd have to look high and low to find a middle school QB who would make that glaring gigantic freaking large of a mental mistake.

That is not quarterback material. Period and end of story.

you don't get to say when the story ends. Thank goodness. I'm sure the ones you control end in a pile of shiznit, but you don't control this story.
Kid wants to make a play and score a td and gets caught up. Fumbled the ball trying for the extra yard.

Spartaca, he's just n00b troll. There's a lot of those that suddenly appeared out of nowhere to bash Dobbs.

I'm not saying that Dobbs isn't the better athlete, bc he is...but that doesn't automatically make him better than Worley...Worley is, at this point, the better QB for us...but he is injured and Dobbs is in there...I was critical with Worley and gave praise...I will be critical with Dobbs and will give praise when deserved...but I am not going to anoint him our savior just yet...

People hate on Dobbs because he had a subpar game. As soon as any UT QB makes a bad pass, they are automatically the worst QB we have ever had. The moment that QB makes a good pass, they are the second coming of Peyton. It's pathetic. Fans need to get behind Dobbs and support him.

Dobbs does not deserve all of the criticism. He is a little to blame, he made some bad throws rookie mistakes. However most of the blame goes to the rest of the team and the coaching staff.

Good grief, I am not hating on him...I am being realistic with his performance. I just find it funny all the fanboys deflecting any blame away from him and putting on everyone else, but when Worley was playing, it was ALL HIS FAULT...

I didn't mean you specifically, just a generalization. I agree with you on the Worley analogy though. I was a big Worley supporter and it was funny. After the SC game people were talking about how good he was playing, then when he has a bad game against Alabama, he is the worst QB ever. I know what you're saying. But we have to cut Dobbs a little more slack if only for the fact that it was his first full game as a starter.

its cool...I am not exactly bashing Dobbs as much as I am bashing the guys, not you, who have completely went off the rails and say it was the greatest game ever, lol...we have to have some clarity on the player...I believe he has the talent, but that wasn't exactly his best game to judge him by...let him get thru Kensucky and then we can get a clearer picture...

P.S. sorry I was a little defensive...been a loooong weekend....

Blame it on Smith then? Dobbs probably isn't ready but he has to play. Same thing with Smith.

half are fan base is still praying manning comes back to QB us...they are unrealistic...dobbs is way better then Worley if you can't see that you need serious help...Worley has more snaps under his belt that's it...dobbs will settle down and get it...only person fighting him for his job is ferg and we still don't know how he will play so chill out...we have nothing to judge either qb by intil WR's start catching the ball...come on Worley threw 3 INTS against Southern ****** dobbs does it against number 9 team in the nation and sucks get a life!
