We got Crompt for 2 years then BJ for 4 years and NS for 2 years i think.....dont we usually start QB as Freshman anyways....if we did go after a QB wouldnt we just be looking for a glorified 4 year back up ala Jim Bob..??? jsut wondering i probably dead wrong

the fact that Coleman's footwork needs serious work and the struggles he's supposedly having with this offense is one reason and the fact that Nick Stephens likes to throw INTS is another. I hope one of them works out, but watching them in the spring game looked very disappointing.

If at all possible you do not want a freshman out of high school running your offense. The players like Manning who can come in and contribute right away without serious growing pains are few and far between.

Who other than Peyton and Eric actually played alot as freshmen?

I forgot Casey started as a frosh, and I don't count Brent as separate from Eric (and we all know how that whole senario played out their freshman yr and the subsequent yrs with Rick Clausen thrown into the mix). Peyton would not have played as much if not for injuries. Point being playing freshmen is not typical for the Big Orange.

if you are starting a true freshman at QB chances are your team is in serious trouble.

See us in 2004. We won the SEC East.

See Matt Stafford at Georgia in 2006. They went 9-4.

See Tyrod Taylor at VT last year. He went 5-0 as a starter.

You are only in "serious trouble" if you don't have good talent around a freshman QB.

and yet, when Cut was here there were several posters on here ready to anoint him the second coming of Peyton.

I don't think anyone recruits qb's to start as a freshman. It is like any other position, you get the best players you can and develop them. This is not rocket science.

how many times have we heard that though? Casey Clausen was supposed to be that guy (and while he turned out to be a different breed of qb, i'm more than happy with his results), then we all heard the hail Erik Ainge hoopla, then Crompton, then Coleman.

I could care less about the second coming of Peyton Manning exactly, I just want a qb that can make a number of different passes and can make quick decisions when he lines up under center.

well we really didnt get a qb last year. No way Casey Kelly ever puts on a uniform. Sure fire first rounder in the MLB draft. No team can afford to go 2 years without picking up a quarterback for depth. Every now and then you can skip one year but never 2.
