Why are we losing so many receivers?!?!

Hyatt had a rough sophomore year with many drops. He lost his spot in the rotation as I recall. Then in the off season he went ballistic and caught thousands of JUGS balls and worked like a maniac. His hard work paid off and he dominated the SEC his final season and teamed with Hooker for a legendary season. Not sure his game or size translates easily to the NFL but the man for sure was a freak that no one who saw him that season will ever forget. Hope some of the current Vols can have similar intensity to Jalin Hyatt and step up their game.

The most important thing that needs to be learned here….

I before E, except after C.

I watched Boo Carter in high school. CJH needs to move him to offense. He is better than what I saw the receivers do this year. Boo has the potential to take it to the house every time he touches the ball.
Did you watch the other WR’s in highschool? Many of them looked that impressive on offense. I’d love to see boo on some offensive packages but I’m just reminding you anyone playing at the SEC level generally had some insane high-school highlights. Hard to predict which ones work and which ones don’t in college.

This is a good thing. WR room was very weak this year. Heupel is flipping this group just like he rebuilt a bad DB room the year before.

They know Nico can't get the ball to them w any consistency. Nico is not a qb you feel confident will throw it accurately to you. "Man...he's just gonna run anyway or throw it over my head." These kids want a qb who will make them look good. Nico ain't that guy.

Does anyone suspect there's an issue with the WRs and Coach Pope? He keeps a low profile, at least from what I've seen, but I can't ever recall hearing a receiver call him out as helpful, etc.

I'm not saying there is a problem. I'm just wondering what y'all think.

I would be very concerned if we returned this WR core given performance the past two years, let’s upgrade like we did at DB this past offseason
The same DB that looked solid all year besides the games they faced a very stout receiving core like the UGA and OSU receivers. Is that the DB upgrade you are mentioning? If so, UT better do ten times better at the WR upgrade than they did the secondary!!!

So far, I feel the same way. I hope that changes with Nico or Merklinger or MacIntyre blossom quickly into studs. Otherwise, 8-9 wins a season may be UT's ceiling for a while.

Better hope the staff does a better job of flipping the WR room than they did the DB room! The DBs didn't fair well vs good passing teams! That was probably the biggest reason for the 3 Ls as well as Banks lack of pressure on the QBs in those three games!!!
