Why are we not still going after another OL or DT?

I think CDD and staff have done an excellent job with this class and forgive my naivety, but with 2 schollys left and guys like Cullen and Green still unsigned on the OL and Calvin Smith on the DLine, why aren't we still going after them in these areas of extreme need and taking last second shots at that talent before they sign somewhere? CDD has already said we are finished for the day. Thoughts? :dunno:

My guess is that this class fills needs and CDD has his eye on some 2011 recruits...

Because it is a multi-year commitment. Better off backfilling with jucos over the next few years than granting a scholly to a practice player

If those guys still wanted to come here they would be welcomed with open arms. My guess is they told Dooley they will not consider UT.

Despite what most on this board say, we actually do have more than just John Brown now for DT. We have Victor Thomas, listed at 6'4" 285; Montori Hughes who most everyone knows about; Chase Nelson listed at 6'4" 292. I know it still is not a lot and most of these guys have little or no experience, but give DD a chance to coach some of these guys up

Seriously man. Ask any of these armchair coaches around here who Montori Hughes was in the fall of 2008 and you get blank looks.

Chris Walker, Dan Williams, Nick Reviez, Lamarcus Thompson, Denarious Moore, Luke Stocker, Aaron Douglas...I can keep going if you want. Guys that weren't expected to produce as much as they have as quickly as they have or at all.

Everyone keeps looking around for HS kids at "need positions" and the players are on the dang team. jeez.

Don't forget Marlon Walls. Also, Arthur Jeffery is coming off a redshirt this year.

DT's - Walls, Hughes, Jeffrey, Nelson, Thomas, and now Brown. It is also possible I think that we could see Hood move over as well. As a former TE, he has the athleticism. Offensive Line is deeper than most think too. With todays 4, there are now 13 OL. We are young and inexperienced, but the Vols will be fine.

Don't take the lack of one signing as "were not going after them." It's the last day and Dooley only had 2 weeks. I'm sure they were in contact but it is very difficult to sway a kid in the last 2 weeks. We have gotten some to switch but others, well... we will have to wait and see. Maybe there's another big fish out there.

Is Rae Sykes big enough now to move to DT? Haven't heard anything about him in a while.

I'm pretty sure Thompson and cdd have an idea that we need a dt. If there is anybody left, I'd bet we're doing anything we can to get them. We don't need bodies, we need players. Heck we have 5-6 dts on the roster. Our problem is that we don't have enough good ones. I'm not in favor of going out and finding a 1 or 2 star guy and signing him up unless lt thinks he is undervalued (like Hughes). To even ask the question whether we are looking seems a bit silly. Youbknow they are, but there is probably not much left to look at. We are talking about one of the most highly sought after positions in football. Good ones are rare.

Wow, New Mexico. I bet their coach spit out his drink when he heard that.
