I heard the announcers say she left the team. I had been wondering where she was since I hadn't seen her play in a couple of weeks. I thought maybe she was injured.

I had just thought they had been playing Aldrete behind the plate because they needed her big bat. Akamine had been struggling with hitting this year but she was always so great behind the plate and in post season so clutch.

I don't see anything on the UT websites, but will keep looking. Her leadership and experience behind the plate would be huge in postseaon. Sure hope Aldrete can keep her head clear during the pressure situations.

Has Aldrete played catcher all year? Maybe Akamine was upset about losing her position. She is a good catcher--not the hitter Aldete is, but someone you wouldn't want to lose.

Aldrete took over about mid season and they had let Akamine play 3rd base some. That could be what happened. I hate to lose her especially this late in the season.

She lost the passion of the game and decided not to continue... She decided to not go with the team to Kentucky to support her teammates but her playing days were over by then..

Coaches have had to "beg" her to come back the last couple years... she will complete the current year but wont return to UT next season... Her future plans does not depend upon a College degree.

That is unfortunate to hear. She should at least get her degree but with that being said, Ralph and Karen shouldn't have to beg anyone to play. There are too many girls who would love to have that opportunity.

from afar, admittedly, as being just the opposite--very engaged on the field. Are you saying that losing her position wasn't a factor? I'd be surprised...

I've been a little less enthusiastic about some of the coaches' strategy and player decisions this year. Not one of their better years in my opinion.
