Why do the main media outlets in America suck so bad??

Yep, that's an easy one.

Only 10 percent of journalists are considered "conservative". The rest are "liberal".

It's because the "media" is a for-profit concern (no problem with that) owned or interlocked via the Board of major corporations, things that tend to influence profits are what are "pushed" in the media. I think it is one of the reasons that citizen reporters (via blogs, etc) are so important and are being attacked, in the marketplace of ideas, if free honest news makes in-roads, it will hurt profits.
