For those that don't know, Braves outfielder Jose Constanza has a habit of smelling and then licking his bat after he fouls off a pitch. I've heard of players smelling their bat after they make contact with the ball because it smells like burning wood or leather. But this is the first time I've ever heard of a guy licking his bat as well. Is it superstition, or does he actually have a legitimate (at least in his mind) reason for doing it?

Oh, and if you're planning on answering with something along the lines of "he likes wood in his mouth" or "he likes to taste wood," save yourself the trouble and don't. You've already been beaten to the punch by about a thousand other 14 year olds on the internet.

I saw that on the Not Top 10 a couple of hours ago. Looks embarrassing.

It's a Dominican tradition

Really? That would make sense, but why don't you ever hear about other guys doing it? And it seems like the Braves announcers would have heard of that if it was the case. I watch most of the broadcasts and I haven't heard them explain it yet other than saying stuff about baseball having weird superstitions.

I think I read that he likes the taste of the burn that the ball leaves on the bat after hitting one foul

I was kidding. I think he just likes wood in his mouth
