combine all the threads together of one topic or person? I hate for my first post here to be a negative one, but I like to read what the posters here have to say, but don't want to wade through mountains of old information to get to the new info. There is a thread on David Oku that has thousands of replies and tens of thousands views that began on this site in March 2008. I don't understand why the mods just don't let the old info die out and let the new info stand on its on. That's just MHO. Anybody else find this annoying?

It may be frustrating at times, but I promise you, if you ever go to other boards that don't do that, you'll appreciate this one.

It keeps it orderly, easy to navigate. Overall, it's well done.

Just go to the last page of the thread. If we had a new thread for every time there was fresh news, we would have 100 David Oku threads.

Because every one of the reasons you guys mentioned seems to me to be reason for not merging.

I go to several UT boards each day (about a half a dozen) and I'm looking for new info. I come here, look at the same David Oku thread, shrug my shoulders and I'm off to another site.

Which makes it's even more frustrating not knowing what the new posts are about. A lot of times I go to the final page and it's just "ridiculous stuff."

But wouldn't most of those get purged, or at least pushed further down on the page — making the likelihood that you're seeing the freshest news at the top of the page?

OK, I've said spoken my mind, and will not bring it up anymore.

GO VOLS!

oUT,

I agree to an extent with your point. This board is different from many of the other ones, in large part due to the number of posters. Keeping each topic contained w/in its own thread makes it easier to locate the topic, but, as you mentioned, the conversation on the last page does sometimes devolve into something besides the newest information.

All that said, this is a great Vol community... give it some time..

I like the merging- it keeps threads organized and prevents 50 threads on the same topic. Personally I find that very annoying when I'm over on VQ- for example, when looking for football or recruiting info during a basketball game you essentially get a play-by play with a jilliion game posts and 10 about Scotty Hopson's last dunk.

VN is just a diferent flavor, and will always be 'home sweet home' to me!

Guys, we are looking into some new ideas on how to handle recruiting threads this year. Stay tuned.

Freak if anything just run it like some of the rivals boards do, keep a general thread going like we have here and if something happens, say Maclin changes to UT start a thread about that and sticky it for a few days so everyone sees it then later merge it over to the general thread about the recruit.

As for the OP, this board can get out of hand sometimes and you can have 8 different threads on one recruit. Now you tell me is it easier to go to one thread and find it or sift through 10 pages of junk to find what you are looking for?

You know, my love of irony makes me want to find a thread to merge this with :)

I agree it is annoying at times, but the greater good is served. I am glad the mods do it.

BTW - OKU was a bad example.

Very well said, Kev.

This is a VERY busy board and the mods work hard to make it easily navigable. They do an excellent job and we should all be thankful.

This is something along the lines of what I am currently considering -- keep the individual threads but allow threads for breaking news that is deemed worthy. We can always merge them later if we choose to do so.

Right now, it's nice to have the individual player threads, but unless you check all of them daily it's easy to miss important news on these kids.

Hence the 20 post minimum post to start a thread. Which is about 80 short IMO.
