players follow their own shots. I just sat down and watched one minute of Ill v Mich. Illinois player shoots, holds the follow, poses because he knows it's in, is slow to react as it comes hard off the rim and watches the guy guarding him get the long rebound after he was way out of position after running by the shooter.

That crap drives coaches crazy. Every time that mental or physical lapse happens, it's a potential 6 point turnaround every time it happens.

Follow your damn shot, unless you are the last man back. Please.

I prefer them getting back, and having all four non-shooters crashing. Posing is wasted time though.

Apathy. Kobe and Lebron don't do it so why should they?

I think you miss opportunities. The shooter knows where the ball is going to come off before anyone else. Of course Trae or the pg can't, but a shot from the wings, baseline or in the paint should always be followed.

Most shooters at that level think they are going to make every shot, unlike me and you playing pick up at the YMCA in the old man's league at 6 AM on Fridays morning before work.

Depends on the shot. If you shoot a floater in the lane, like Golden, then yeah, follow your shot. If you are shooting a three, I'd say just get back unless you are very confident you'll get it.

^This is the reason.. It's the coaches preference.. Some like shooters crashing, some like them floating back on D.

I'm not talking about crashing. I'm talking about taking a couple of steps towards the rim in a controlled manner. At least it gives you an opportunity for a long rebound, and you haven't crashed the boards so you have time to get back.

I agree w the OP. A lot of posing the goes on.

And the players that follow their shots seem to get their own rebounds at a suprising frequency

Sounds like multi-tasking to me. That's a lot of work. Shoot the ball and then pretend it's not going in and try to get a rebound? I would rather shoot and pose. That way I can get some rest.

We give up too many fast break points as it is. Don't need to give up any more. I like what our coaches are teaching, and it seems to be working pretty good. Remember, CCM stresses defense first.

Yup.

If they are following their coach's wishes to either rebound or get back, then they are doing their job. If they are posing, then it's their coach's job to make sure they don't.

Often, when a shooter doesn't follow his shot it's because he isn't really supposed to. Imagine Tatum launches a brick from the wing, takes three steps in to rebound, while the other team's SF is now sprinting past half court for the wide open alley-oop.

I will say, Cuonzo has this team VERY disciplined after misses or (even more impressive) makes to get back on defense. Even after huge dunks, there isn't usually fist pumping and posturing. They run back down court to play defense...and Cuonzo is yelling at them to get back the whole time. PURE BUSINESS. I like to see that.

I watch a lot of Memphis basketball (I know...don't hate), and after a big make the players are too often looking for a camera to fist gesture into rather than get back. The Zo wouldn't stand for that.
