Why I like Newt... (sometimes)

Below are Newt's views on the POTUS vs Fox news debate...

"The Obama administration has picked a fight with Fox News as a strategy to take attention away from the real problems they can't solve.

Unemployment rising? Attack Bill O'Reilly.

It is a sad distance from the "bring us together," "yes we can," "change we can believe in," "transparancy" Obama candidacy. The Obama presidency is proving divisive, cynical, and deliberately calculating in its effort to polarize the country."

imo, it's great to speak out, but he has zero effect outside of Congress... Obama/Pelosi/Reid could care less what any R outside of Congress says... they are going to rahm as much of their agenda through as possible...

I agree. There's little we can do about the current situation, but I like the fact that someone is speaking out about the fallacies of the Obama administration. One of the best descriptions I heard of Obama during his campaign was that he was a "blank canvas". The fact that he spoke eloquently and often said what the specific audience "wanted to hear" allowed voters to project their own specific image of an Obama presidency onto the blank canvas.

Now that he's been in the position where words alone don't get the job done, but actions and decision making are also important, I believe that the "blank canvas = blank mind" is becoming more evident to independent voters.

Perhaps a few more American voters will start to understand that elections indeed have serious consequences and it is their responsibility to put a little more effort into understanding the history of the candidates before they vote and to stop swallowing campaign rhetoric so readily.

It was the majority of the media that made him a blank canvas, because there was plenty of his past record to consider and to illustrate who he was.

I don't disagree with the point you're making, but I'm trying to take that point further and posit that people so desperately wanted to believe that he was what he was not. I spent so many hours on political forums prior to the election pointing to specifics in what he had done in the past that did not jibe with what he was saying in his campaign, but so many people just didn't want to hear or consider it. They were caught up in their sentimentality for what they imagined the man to be.

Yeah... that one may come back to haunt him. However, at the time of his endorsement she was still ahead of Hoffman and Newt just wants to make sure that the Republicans pick up this seat. I think she's now trailing Hoffman. I just hope they don't split the vote and then ultimately both lose out in the election.

I am done with Newt because of this. Why do we want another Specter or Olympia Snow? He just wants another R in the congress he does not care about principles.
