Why I still love Butch

"I will tell you this, and you can write this. We will get it done. This place is too special. The only variable we have is time. Somebody may say, `Why the heck are you doing that?' Because I believe in it. I believe in Tennessee football, I believe in our fan base. I gave up a lot to come here because I want to be a part of building something special and having that responsibility of getting Tennessee football back. I love Tennessee. Our pride and our passion for this place drives us every day in recruiting, in developing our players, and if it kills me, it kills me. I'm going to put everything I have in it to get Tennessee football back."

Fans--- we don't have the talent or the depth to compete at this point in the season after 7 top 10 opponents. But butch will recruit them, develop them, and win. Bowl game is on the way, fans. Have faith..!
Butch is special and I would run threw a wall for the man.

People need.to back off and be patient.

Ut needs stability and some croots!

I think the coach is required to speak after the game. What should he say, I quit?

Yes the coach is required to give coach speak but that doesn't mean we all have to be so stupid as to lap it up and get giddy on message boards about it.

“I know the SEC has enjoyed taking advantage of our tough times,” Dooley said. “But there’s a nice mood on our team right now that you’re not going to have Tennessee to kick around anymore.”

Coach Speak

Probably got the same amount of you yahoos all soaped up...in fact I remember it doing so...

I wish I could like this 1000. I don'w know if Butch is the guy, and I don't know if he's not. But the way people on here just get all wet over everything these guys say is amazing.

Lap it up? What difference does it make whether or not people like how Jones handles the press conference? I'm lost.

What does it mean?

All you have to do is believe this........that if you take 10-15 of the schools in the top 25 and let them play the schedule we did, I guarantee you more than half would have similar records as we do right now.............its just BAD TIMING for a new coach to come in and make an impact w/ this schedule right now...............WE WILL BE BETTER !!

I would be more impressed if he said that the play today was a total embarrassment to the University, former players, the student body and the State of Tennessee. The play on the field was pitiful and as coaches we take full responsibility. We obviously took a step back today and every position on the field is up for grabs regardless of seniority. If you are a senior that continues to make mistakes, you will be benched. All of our coaches will be judged accordingly as well. We will do everything in our power to win the next game!

Does it really matter what he says? I guess that's my point. I think everything you said is probably a given with the exception of benching seniors, some of which wouldn't be playing if we had an ounce if depth.

ONLY? No excuse for today's performance, but I put some stock into upsetting Spurrier in year one and taking Georgia to the wire.

Some people act like we haven't won a game this season. The over/under for this team to start the year was probably 6-6, and that was when people thought Missouri and Auburn weren't going to be very good.

Preach it Freak! The goal is a bowl game, always has been. I just can't stand part of our fanbase, they are lost in space. We think we are relevant but the rest of the country does not. It will take better Jimmys and Joes to get back to where we want to be.

I think what I'm trying to say is some are tiring of the PC coach speak. I think brutal honesty is more refreshing with this train wreck. As far as depth goes, I say screw it, play for next year. I seriously doubt we win out anyway.

What does it mean?

It means its more important what the man's results say, and not his mouth.

As for how people respond to coach speak, I guess it really doesn't matter if people get giddy over it. It just makes them look like morons and our fan base overall look stupid.

Exactly, results matter. So I'm not sure why you're hung up on coach speak.

Approving of post game comments/or not doesn't make a fan base look stupid.

Do you think Auburn is more talented than Tennessee?

I think he basically said all of that. He did not say he would bench our seniors, and here's why - all season long, if you could play, you'd get the chance regardless of seniority. Frankly, I don't see them doing anything except trying to win with a team that has had a loser mentality the last 4 years. It took four years to get here, it won't get better overnight.

All this is great but you can't justify giving up 400 plus rushing yards in a game and having an OC who runs shotgun packages on 3 and 1. It's not about players then, it's about piss poor coaching.

I think Auburn is more talented than us. But I think you swap coaches and TN wins.

why do I need who to clarify what?

I'm just curious how idiot sunshine pumpers "fall" for coach speak, as he put it, and what difference it makes. When you're bashing the fan base on how they interpret press conference coach speak, it just seems like reaching for things to complain about. Just my opinion.

I know it's hard becuase I want win just as bad as anyone but I promise if we give butch time to recruit and get his players in things will change in a good way. He's already proven he can get top talent.

Let's wait until NSD to make that judgment.

I wouldn't trade CBJ for anyone. What I would trade for is a OC that is willing to play smash mouth football when need be. I think Jancek is on the line of also being replaced but, I'm also not a moron and realize our secondary, DEs, and LBs are terrible. Mike B needs to be replaced and Jancek needs to be put on a very, very hot seat. The reason I say fire Mike B is because his system is flawed against elite SEC teams, and we will never been a great redzone scoring offense without having some acceptance of power football.

Interesting opinion. Care to elaborate?

I think Mahlzan would take the Tennessee team and be a lot better. I think he would beat a Butch Jones coached Auburn team. Impossible to prove but I think he's that good of a coach. JMO

How would you classify Auburn's offense?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm giving up on Butch. I'm saying Mahlzan is a far superior x's and o's coach at this point in their careers.

In fairness his team was recruited for his system. But he's definitely doing an amazing job.

The better team won today and our staff didn't do anything to impress me. I'm just not sure I'm willing to draw any conclusions on what it means long term.
