Why I still love Butch

Does it really matter what he says? I guess that's my point. I think everything you said is probably a given with the exception of benching seniors, some of which wouldn't be playing if we had an ounce if depth.

I think it matters. I for one would like to hear the coaches step up and shoulder 100% of blame, even if it's only on one occasion. And frankly I am tired of hearing all of CBJ's slogans and euphemisms - seems like he has a new one every week. Even the Cincy faithful were tired of hearing them all by the time he departed.

I wouldn't trade CBJ for anyone. What I would trade for is a OC that is willing to play smash mouth football when need be. I think Jancek is on the line of also being replaced but, I'm also not a moron and realize our secondary, DEs, and LBs are terrible. Mike B needs to be replaced and Jancek needs to be put on a very, very hot seat. The reason I say fire Mike B is because his system is flawed against elite SEC teams, and we will never been a great redzone scoring offense without having some acceptance of power football.

You wouldn't trade CBJ for anyone??? That is laughable. So you think CBJ is the best coach in the country??? Foolish.

And dont think for a minute that any of CBJ's boys will be replaced.

He's shouldered the blame on several occasions.

I just don't really care about slogans or speeches, insofar as it pertains to the success of the program. When were winning they're always good and when we lose it's always bad. I have other concerns beyond coach speak and choice of words at a presser.

How would you classify Auburn's offense?

Aurburn is like A&M in that they have a QB who can't be stopped when running. Let's see just how well they do without that threat. I mean Freak, and maybe you will disagree here, but we don't even use traditional single back sets. 90% of our running plays comes from a read option and a TE coming from the strong side as a lead blocker. I just can't see any team winning consistently year in and year out in a read option based offense. You are single handling relying on the fact you can land a Cam Netwon or Manziel type guy every few years. The refusal to consistently play power sets on short yardage plays worries me Freak a ton. I don't mind the spread and no huddle offense, but at the end of the day on a 3rd and inches I believe it's man up time and you go I-Form set with a FB behind the center and earn those inches.

Do these "concerns" concern the level of coaching, player development, game planning?

Or talent and speed (well lack thereof).

I think he said a cpl weeks ago that basically the buck stops here which is think is different than truly shouldering the blame. Maybe its semantics but the product on the field speaks volumes in my opinion and that product cannot be blamed simply on lack of talent, depth and/or speed.

There are actually programs across the country at all levels of college football that lack talent and depth but appear and are well coached....

You are right but I think his team is over achieving where our team is not.

I think Auburn is pretty dang talented. You don't average 300+ yards a game rushing without having good players. I would say they are overachieving but also massively underachieved last year.

It means its more important what the man's results say, and not his mouth.

As for how people respond to coach speak, I guess it really doesn't matter if people get giddy over it. It just makes them look like morons and our fan base overall look stupid.

You should change your screen name to Justin Timberlake because all I hear is cry me a river.

I understand your point. I just don't really have an issue with our scheme generally speaking. It's becoming more of the norm in college football.

Did I say I thought CBJ was the best? No I never did. I just said at this point I'm not firing the man for anyone. He's gave me no reason to not think he's our guy. He will make changes to his coaching staff as he sees fit as I believe he's slowing realizing his mentality on offense might not always be the best course of action. CBJ stands behind his name and words and he will do what it takes to get it done.

I agree 100%. I think Mahlzan is a master at putting his players in a position to make plays.

Do you see any problems with running shotgun formations on 3rd and 1? Seriously, just curious.

The team has major speed issues. It has shown time and time again, this year and last.

I don't think the staff did a good job today but I also think Auburn is a lot more talented than we are.

We lost to a better team.

I don't want to burst your bubble but CBJ will do nothing with his staff this year. He will do nothing with his staff until he is forced to save his job. He's incredibly loyal hence why he brought most of his staff from Cincy.

The ONLY reason to still have hope in Butch at the point is his recruiting. He's shown us nothing so far in player development, game planning and execution, and motivating players to overachieve.

If it weren't for the great recruiting class and recruiting momentum, then it would be worth considering whether or not we are wasting more time with him.
Ding ding ding. CORRECT!!!!!!!!

I apologize I didnt think thay anyone suggested firing CBJ in this thread. Your statement was that you would not trade Jones for anyone. I was simply responding to that statement.

Personally, I don't because I see teams doing it successfully every Saturday. But I know that a lot of people share your concern and it's a valid one.

I tend to agree. But, being the sunshine pumper I am, I think one year is a bit soon to start firing people, regardless.

I agree with you Freak. I see both sides. Shotgun on short yardage downs opens up defense to edge vulnerablity. But I also think there is a place to keep it under center on some, if you think the Offensive line can get a push. That is something I feel we can do against Vandy & KY but not against the superior teams we have been facing.

I think Auburn is more talented than us. But I think you swap coaches and TN wins.

You're crazy. Malzahn, just like Jones, would not have the offensive talent to do anything at UT this year.

The worst recruiting class that Auburn has had in the past four years was ranked 10th, according to Rivals. They also have not had to deal with attrition that comes with three head coaching changes in that time. As a result, they are significantly more talented than Tennessee. Add that to the fact that Malzahn recruited most of the current offensive players to fit his system and you easily can see why Auburn won today.

We lost to a better team.

A "loss" is not just a "loss" when you lose in the fashion that we have lost this year! And its not just that we lost to a better team or that we were supposed to lose to those teams. That is the point that is escaping people. We are getting beaten badly, very badly - and have looked quite disinterested at times.

This team has not even been competitive in all but one of its losses.
