I'm watching the Uconn v FL game right now. I understand it is difficult to call these games, but it is just horrendous calls against FL and for Uconn.

But the foul I see called in every game is where the defender goes straight up to contest a shot, the offensive player jumps *into* the defender, and the defender is called for a foul. Why is this a foul?

Because Offense sells tickets and gathers eyeballs….

Not as bad as the Gator player lying on the floor and the UCONN player tripping over him and the foul was on the Gator.

To the point I assume a game is going to be poorly officiated while simply hoping the whistles are fair.

It's not a foul. But gets called constantly. Principal of verticality is supposed to allow you to jump straight up with your hands vertical. If your arms are bent ever so slightly.... Whistle every time.

Principal of verticality is a theory in modern basketball, not a reality.
Offensive players get the whistle, even when they create the contact, almost every time.
College officiating is horrendous.

Considering that there is no walking and 3 second calls anymore you would think that they could at least call the rest of the game correctly. I just hope we get a close-to-even type of game where we are not sitting starters 5 minutes in. 5 on 8 is very tough.

Even worse when the offensive player basic rams the defender and backs them down to the basket then goes up for a shot, the defender goes straight up and they call a foul on the defender. Like what exactly is the defender supposed to do? I don't understand why the offensive player can lower their shoulder and bump into the defender but if the defender does it back they call a foul.

Not to mention the inconsistency where 1 minute barely touching is a foul and the next minute a full tackle is play on. And when they wait to see if a shot goes in and if it doesn't they then call the foul.

The very worst part? They do absolutely nothing to improve it. They don't address the inconsistency, the being out of position, and when they anticipate a foul and call it becaues they think one is about to happen and then nothing happened.

Like it or not, Michael Jordan ruined basketball and is the primary reason that you have to take 17 steps to get called for walking. And the carry rule is nonexistant.

No, I think a much, much bigger effect are the likes of announcers like Bilias saying "they need to model the NBA" 50 times a game. I don't want it to model the NBA. I don't like the NBA. Neither do a LOT of college sports fans.

The thing gets me is how often the WR pushes off to create separation. That is never called offensive PI.
But if the CB creates that contact, out comes the flag every time.
"every time" is approximately 10X the number of actual times. You are not watching the same sport I am watching. You might be watching Australian football or hockey or something.
