Mickie DeMoss is twice Tyler Summitts age.
She's one of the most knowledgable coaches and recruiters that there is.
Is this a favor to Pat?
You know that Mickie probably changed Tyler's diapers as she was like an Aunt to him growing up.
I just find it very interesting that she is his top assistant and not vice versa.

She wanted out of Tennessee when Holly got the job they were not getting along that well. She didn't enjoy the WNBA and when Tyler got the Tech job was more than happy to join him there. I hope they will be successful in rebuilding that program.

Mickie's been a head coach twice. Think it's been there, done that, don't want to do it again. And a healthy dose of help Tyler and love for Pat.

Mickie is Tyler's training wheels. When he gets his balance, the training wheels will come off.

As I recall, she really disliked being a head coach and got out of it. I would not expect her to ever accept another head coach position.

Mickie has said in interviews that she was looking for a way to show support for Pat. When Tyler got the job at LaTech, she says she thought "what better way to help Pat then to help her son." It was Mickie's idea to go work for him.

I'm sure DeMoss would have loved to get the UT job--and, knowing Warlick, was not going to stay and work with someone not really qualified for the job. That's not to say that DeMoss would have been a great head coach here--who knows--but I'm sure she would have been lots better than HW.

Maybe as a favor to Pat? Maybe she wanted out of U.T.?
You would need to ask her about that one. I am almost 100% sure that MIckey will never get another head coaching job again. Her record at Florida was bad and the scandal she had at Ky. was a killer for her career.

"the scandal she had at Ky. was a killer for her career."

What was the scandal? I thought she kind of brought that program around at just the right time for Matthew Mitchell to come in and pick up where Mickey had left off, which is partly the reason why he was able to do so well so soon.

"In 1979, she became the first full-time women's basketball coach in the history of the University of Florida. After four seasons and a 45-68 record, she left to become an assistant at Auburn University under Joe Ciampi. In both of her seasons at Auburn, they made the NCAA Tournament. More importantly for the direction of her career, she established herself as a top-notch recruiter. In the four seasons (1985–1989) after she left Auburn, players she helped recruit gave the Lady Tigers a 119-13 record and went to two Final Fours."

If there was any scandal at KY, I never heard of it. She was successful her four years there (SEC coach of year, ranked 15, beat UT one time:cray:, etc). When she did later go to TX there was talk of breach of contract, but nothing ever came of it. Maybe that is the "scandal"?

But check my facts:)...anyone can post anything on a message board:eek:hmy:. Someone else may have better data.
