We all know that Dooley is gone, and most likely, all but a few coaches with him. There is some talk of a possibility that Chaney could (or according to some, should) be retained. I think that is a mistake. He is an inconsistent play caller. Here is a stat from tonight's game that has been the epitome of his tenure as UT's OC.

Marlin lane had 108 yards rushing on only 16 attempts in this game. That is 6.8 yards per carry. In a game that our offensive line dominated the LOS, starting in the second half we did not run on first down until the 4th offensive series. We had multiple 3+ straight passing plays, most resulting in incomplete passes.

This offense does not work in the SEC, this type of play calling does not work in the SEC, this coach does not belong in the SEC. Some may feel like our offense is the least of our teams worry, while our Defense is atrocious, our offensive play calling has been the most inconsistent part of our game for 3 seasons.

Our Athletes on offense are some of the most talented in the country, and I believe our success on offense is because of their abilities over their teaching.

Go Vols, these players deserve better, hopefully the AD saves the day with the next hire.

I don't think anyone would be retained outside of Jay Graham. We will know shortly.

Yeah you could tell Bray was pulling a Kentucky.. Why they didn't just let Lane run more i'll never know.. He does need to go. That was pathetic..

Absolutely agree. Franklin's plan was light years ahead of Chaney's

Agree with the OP - certainly most of us believe Dooley's time was already up, I think the offense's showing tonight put to rest the rumors that Chaney might be retained.

I completely agree. He's gotta go too! When we do run well, he screws it up running a reverse and always to the short side of the field. How can a player use his athleticism in the short side. Dooley and Chaney belong at a lemonade stand in Tuscaloosa. Why ya think Kiffen didn't retain him.

chaney had a terrible game tonight and killed his own teams momentum by getting cute again too often, and abandoned the running game in the first half, and again early in the 3rd quarter.

Then he started the same crap with just running stops, goes and outs.

With the exception of Graham, I don't think you need to worry about any of the staff being retained.

Sometimes I thinlk chaney is pretty good but he always has 3-5 plays a game that's retarded and looks decent 1 game then bad the next. Maybe he's trying 2 be really creative and unpredictable?

Not to mention that the tightens didn't even have a pass throwed his way after the game that he had last week

Gruden will not keep any of these ass clowns. No need to worry. I would like Graham to stay.

too many low percentage throws in key situations. I like the guy and have defended him....this was too much.

He won't be here next year and neither will any of the current staff. It will be a total cleansing of the current staff, which is exactly what we need.

He wont be here ,but by no means is he the cause of this abysmal season our offense besides today of course has been at least the one bright spot ,thus making it somewhat close. If not we lose every game by at least 20 more points. If players dont execute coaches get blamed whether its Bray's errant throws or our line having a off game. We have bigger issues for sure ,and thats how are we gonna get some corners good enough for the SEC next year bc if not it wont matter what OC we keep get or take from another team if we don't have D or learn how to f-in tackle!

I always thought Jim Chaney was awful as both a play caller and as an offensive coordinator. It'll be good to see him gone.

I lost what little remaining faith I had in Chaney when we had a 3rd and 2 late in the first half against Mississippi State, I think--defense had been on the field for most of the game, we desperately needed a first down--and he has Bray loft a 25-30 yard sideline pass. To say it was low percentage would be an understatement. Incompletion and a punt! I like Chaney and sometimes he had our offense humming when we were 14/20 points behind. But we never hummed early or late in games, or in clutch situations. We suxed in the clutch, but it's not easy when your defense is among the worst in the country.
