And does it hurt recruiting that position?

Frank Wilson-LSU
Curtis Luper -Auburn
Stan Drayton-Gators
Jay Graham - Cocks
Burton Burns - BAMA
Derrick Nix - Ole Miss

ETC...

Just seems like a really important position for us to be the only SEC team w/o a coach for that position. Do you think this hurts us in recruiting? Do you think it's hurt us getting a back, other than Smith, this year? Honest question. Thx.

Not according to UT Sports, but even if he is in charge, the guy's history isin't great with RB's.

I could be wrong but many OC usually handle RB, TE or WR...only UF was crazy enough to let the OC handle OL duties also.

Isn't that we did with the clawfense. I could be wrong but I thought our line woes were placed on clawsons shoulders because of his crazy schemes.

You aren't wrong, many OC's handle QB's, some have running game and passing game coordinators as well. We don't seem to have a designated RB coach/recruiter. It seems to be something a bit lacking in this class, maybe it's just me.

From a recruiting perspective, it's hard to make an argument that Florida has benefited from having a RB coach.

Coach: Ok super gifted running back with lots of athletic ability, grab the ball and run as fast as you can in that direction.

RB: Wow coach, it worked.

Having good running backs is 90% based on the pure ability of the back, and 10% coaching. Recruiting wise, it might have a different impact.

Thanks LV, it just describes their positions as offense/defense on the UT site. Are they allowed to recruit as G.A.'s?

They can work the phones and host players on visits to the school. They cannot go on the road to recruit though.

Thanks LV, didn't know they could work the phones...so, I guess you'd say we're okay at that position, enough attention, is that fair to say? Or Poole,Oku and Neal make it less pressing of a need?

JMO, but I do not agree. Coaching has a big impact imo

Jamal Lewis is Jamal Lewis no matter who the "Running back coach" is. I agree that a coach is important as far as teaching the player schemes, option routes, and pass blocking, but the part where the RB gets the ball and runs is all instinct/vision/athleticism.

i played running back in college and a good position coach can be the difference between a good back and a great back...not to bring up the guy, but look at the strides our RB's made under the watch of trooper taylor.

Well, Arian Foster was a good, maybe excellent back at UT, did anyone see him leading the NFL in rushing...besides Fulmer?

recognizing JL and getting him to come to UT and further devloping his God given abilities somehow would be important, no?

you're giving Fulmer too much credit, he didnt give ringing endorsements about Foster when teams did their sniffing around.

Wasnt he the #2 back in his class? Kind of hard not to recognize. Behind that kid who committed to UGA and never did anything, his name slips my mind at this point...Mr. Irrelevant?
