So Jimbo Fischer as head coach, and Kirby Smart as DC? I don't see Kirby leaving 'Bama unless we make him one of the highest paid assistants in the country. And that is if he doesn't get a HC job somewhere else.

That's what I meant. If we keep some of the assistants , then that is basically money saved (buyouts) that can be used for DC hire.

This hurts some of our competitors, and sets us up for excellent recruiting in our primary recruiting areas. Lets face it, the Tennessee job is 65% recruiting and 35% coaching.

There are some damn good DC's who would come here for that much or less.

Nobody on these boards is writing the check, but if the sexy hire isn't happening, then lets do the more practical thing and wrap up recruiting, while punching some rivals in the gut. Its the SEC way.

If we can pay 10 Mil a year for Gru and co., then what's 7 or 8 for the more practical hire?
