Why Tennessee Running Back Jalen Hurd Is SEC's Best Freshman Offensive Player | Bleacher Report

Jalen Hurd continues to impress me. I look for him to make a statement tomorrow against Florida after all the trash talk.

Hurd's production has skyrocketed with each of his four games, more than doubling the production of senior Marlin Lane with his 328 yards on 72 carries thus far.

He also has seven catches for 59 yards and has accounted for three total touchdowns.

After earning his first career start in last week's 35-32 loss at Georgia, the 6'3", 227-pound runner finished with 119 yards on 24 carries.

That's the most yardage for a UT true freshman since Jamal Lewis in the 1997 SEC Championship Game.

The funny thing is, Hurd has about 1" of height and maybe 10 lbs on Davis. It may not make a huge difference, but trying to down someone larger than you in any sense can be a challenge, especially after we watched Hurd carry DBs last weekend until there were 3 or so to bring him down. One on one, I'll take a charging Jalen Hurd over Davis trying to wrap him up and take him down.

Fournette 322 yards.

Hurd 328 yards.

Hurd has a few more carries, but the O line luxury lsu offers fournette is great. Hurd is running behind our worst OL possibly ever.

Don't forget the fact the Fournette has played one more game than Hurd has. When looking at this , this makes what Hurd has done even more impressive.

HAHA Fournette = Overated. I'm sure he'll be good someday, but right now Heisman poses are a little much.

Don't forget the fact the Fournette has played one more game than Hurd has. When looking at this , this makes what Hurd has done even more impressive.

And most of his yards (and poses) were gained against NM State and UL Monroe...most of Hurd's against Oklahoma and Georgia...math's fun.

We had trolls before the season started giving the title & The Heistman (intentionally spelled that way since it was stolen from Peyton back in the day) to LSU's Fournette. Move Hurd to TE immediately ... NOT!!! lol

I just hope he protects the rock. Often times fighting for extra yards leaves you vulnerable to having the ball pop out. In the first half vs. bama the gators did a good job hacking at the ball when the running back was stood up.
