Obviously he was struggling with his thumb. The bad misses, the floating ball, the pick, what gives?

It was a blowout where the outcome would not be changed by a new QB. I can see why he waited an extra series or two. Us, halftime gave them a chance to discuss it and regroup.

I think he honestly didn't want to burn a redshirt but it became obvious he had to

Burned Dobbs redshirt for a game we cannot win and tipped his hand to RF for who has inside track to be next starter?

RF was injured.

But honestly Redshirts are a dated concept these day (with the exception of injury forced Redshirts).

If Dobbs (or any player) balled out as Soph or RSFrorsh they will be eligible for the draft the following year either way.

Im guessing he thought Worley could go and that he thought Worley, the QB that led UT to a great win over SCar last week, gave him the best shot to win. Besides, how many possessions before the half did Worley play after he appeared to really hurt his thumb yesterday? 1 or 2?

too simple and makes too much sense. We were going to be 3-5 or 4-4 at this point anyway and no sense putting in the freshmen early. They weren't ready anyway. Amazing that people see Dobbs last night and think he knew wtf was going on enough to lead an offensive squad 2 months ago.
Butch's hand was forced, but I bet he has a sense of relief this morning now that his handpicked qb is on the field.

You only have to look as far as the running QB's that have really hurt Tennessee this year! Take those scrambles away and the score is much closer! What I keep thinking of is the four years of Peyton Manning followed the next year by a national championship with Tee Martin. Some say that is not important! I think it is critical!

I think BJ learned a lesson when he threw Peterman to the wolves in Gainsville. At Bama is not the best place for a kid to take his first snap. BJ was being smart.

have a much better feel with Dobbs. He just looks more comfortable. He needs to get all reps this week. Time to get a real QB in the game

But this is the problem. He should have played at least one freshman in one of the patsy games on our schedule to get one of them ready.

This. Worley made plays for us against UGA and USCe, but Dobbs looked a little more comfortable with the offense.

And yes I realize that Dobbs played mostly against 2nd stringers, but those 2nd stringers would likely be starters for us.

Not really.

Mostly? Saban didn't pull the 1s until the last 5 min of the game. It's like they were trying to match what Oregon did to us (who pulled the starters at the end of the 3rd).

I believe you are correct, 1-2 possessions tops. Plus waiting until halftime gives CBJ and the team the opportunity to rally behind Dobbs and plan for the second half instead of just throwing him in there.

Maybe he was hoping to get to halftime and assess the situation with Worley. If Worley could go, he would go. Once he found out at halftime he couldn't, he changed. I bet he wishes he didn't play Peterman in the Florida game and get him hurt. Would have been nice to have Peterman in the game and saved the RS for Josh Dobbs. Now the the red shirt has been burned might as well use him as he is healthy and Worley and Peterman are not.

He held out for the same reason Worley hasn't been keeping on the read option though he appears to run pretty good. He wanted to RS both Fr.

No mystery about why he pulled Worley. He was too injured to play and would have risked worse injury.
