Why does everyone want to talk about the NCAA tournament? It is all over the radio, all over the board?

The SEC season has just started for the Vols and people are speculating whether they are going to the Big Dance.

Listen folks, the Vols are playing well with their limited talent and depth. The coaching is excellent. Why don't the fans just get behind the team and support them?

Go to the home games, and go nuts.... be loud, scream, yell, and bang your chairs. This team is playing with heart and guts. They need our support and they are grateful when the house is packed.

The truth is that Tennessee may not go to the Dance but we need to support them. This is not Tennessee basketball as usual. Pearl can coach and he is getting the most out of his players!!!!!!!!

Go Vols

Its been a long drought for BB glory in Knoxville for 1 thing, it's only natural for all fans to dream about going on the national stage. Secondly its becoming more and more clear through marketing and media that the big dance is what really matters, the reg season is becoming more and more meaningless. Now true Vol fans want those SEC titles and rivalry wins, but the big dance is where the $ is, and thats where most folks attention is.

Well I wouldn't agree about the regular season is meaningless part.
I'm a huge Montana Grizzlies fan, two-time winner of the only true NC in Division 1 football. Though we haven't failed to make the tourney the last 10-15 years, the meaningfulness and interest in the regular season has increased if anything.

I'd definitely agree about our yearning over the possibilities after such a long drought. In a way, our regular season has just become more meaningful because now there's a hope that, collectively, each individual game can be a step toward reaching the next level....

The main reason I see for this talk is just the overall surprising performance of this team. What is going to make this talk a reality is the continued pressure and shot percentage - especially the 3's. I cant' believe this team shot 67% from beyond the arc on Sunday. The improvement in mechanics in this team has resulted in talent being there that we didn't expect. The talent was there - but unitl Coach Pearl came along, the talent has not been used. This team can score and has speed. We can run a 4 guard set and drop 3's almost a will. This team was a diamond in the rough until Coach Pearl brought out the shine. The talent is not nearly as limited as we thought.

Wait two weeks before you tell me that.

I don't think so - this team has already proven some things. First and foremost is that they can score. They may not be able to stop other teams, but they can outscore them. The guard play of this team has proven itself. What do they have to do. I was so perterbed with the fact that the loss at OSU dropped this team out of the top 25. Don't the poll voters understand how hard it is to win on the road in college basketball to begin with. After that win in Austin, it was a tall order for them to keep up the road intensity to pull it out at OSU. What is this crap that they have to beat FL or Memphis to prove they have talent? That's unfair. They have already shown that they can hang with anybody. A loss to Memphis or FL doesn't take away from that at all. They have earned the respect - but they just aren't getting it.

The schedule gets tough after Georgia: at LSU, at Memphis, Florida, and then at Mississippi State.

As I will state again, Mississippi State is awful.

You may be right. I have not seen them play. I just noticed they have 11 wins and are 1-0 in the conference.

But, there is no such thing as an easy road game in college basketball. The hardest thing to do in college sports, IMHO, is to win on the road in college basketball. That's what really made the wins in Austin and Columbia so awesome. So however bad these SEC teams might be, a road win is going to be hard.

It's amazing how much talent these kids have when they have a coach that can put together a game plan which brings out the best in each player's game. Bradshaw looked to me to be a slow player that was on the fast track to nowhere. But, Coach Pearl saw his abilities and energy and put that to work. Just look at the game Sunday and you see how far he's come.

What a difference a good coach makes.

VolNation.....

Regardless of wins and losses this year, I am just hoping to see them continue to play hard and leave it all on the floor. Bradshaw said that last year this team would have folded to South Carolina.

I am excited about THE FUTURE of Volunteer basketball. I just dont want to see the fans (fair weather) bail on this team if they lose a few games back to back; whether they be home games or road games.

I just like to talk. I thought that was what message boards were for.

My bad.

I agree completely. After the stinking pile of putrid filth that was our football season, Its refreshing to see us overachieve rather than overachieve and give us a reason to be excited. I'm enjoying this b-ball season like none I can remember, and I'll continue to do so until its over, NCAA, NIT, or no tourney.

 Nice on the "stinking pile of putrid filth" comment -- there's my nomination for the season DVD right there.

I'll miss you for the Georgia game. :wink2:

Patience Grasshopper. Confidence in what you are doing and what you are has made a group of players who would not make many SEC rosters, turn into world beaters. Isn't it great to have Coaches who can do that. Shoot for the moon boys, the only thing holding you back is you. Are we going to win them all, who knows, you can't win them all if you don't win the first and that was done Sunday. Best of Luck, I'm with you all the way.
