I like the guy as much as anyone, but I can't see him staying out of blind loyalty to Tennessee, if he can double/triple his salary.Would you leave?Even when he was being recruited to UT, he said he would like to be a head coach again one day.He is a hot commodity now, and now would be the time to jump at an offer if he's going to go IMO.Thoughts?

Sounds pretty accurate. We knew what we were getting into. Its a sticky situation...if he stays, we get another year or two of these rumors, and you have to imagine its ammo for other recruiters ("dont go to ut, their oc is leaving any day now"). And then of course we have to go find a new OC.

If he wants to go to nc state or whatever, I wish he would just leave now. Lets starts the search for a new oc (again). Not that I fault him for leaving, but I want what is best for UT.

I would hope CPF and company would approach an opening at OC differently than last time.

If Cut leaves I think Fulmer is gone in 2 years.

I agree.

Fulmer had a difficult time recruiting top coaching talent. He has a great relationship with Cut and got the best QB coach available. That saved his bacon and the offense this year. I don't see Fulmer recruiting that type of individual as a QB coach or OC again.

Wouldn't that kind of depend on who replaced him?

Hopefully the Vols have learned that Fulmer can't have a style clone of himself as OC.

Why would Cut stay?

He isn't exactly being paid pennies.

There are other things besides money.

He likes coaching players closely.

He doesn't recruit well and NCSU isn't exactly CFB Mecca.

Butch Davis is at UNC and alot more kids in NC grow up UNC fans than Pack fans... I was a ABC fan (anybody but Carolina) and attended State for a year and a half.

NCSU may be more difficult than Ole Miss to recruit to and not much less political than Bama.

Cut has said before he wants to be a head coach. Cut will be able to recruit well enough to play in the ACC, unless Miami and FSU get back on top.

Not everyone lacks the ability to discipline an offensive team the way Sanders did. He was/is obviously a good position coach... but you need a stronger leader than he was to be OC.

Would Trooper get a shot? Would he perform if he did?

In the end, Cut could just come to the realization that he's got a good thing and not decide to give it up. He didn't exactly excel without Fulmer and Fulmer didn't excel without him.

UT should pay what it takes... and Fulmer should be willing to split his salary with him... Which would probably be more than State would offer.

Cutcliffe isn't a new OC. When we actually need a NEW OC who hasn't been an OC here before.

Exactly. I also hope when we hire a new coach if Fulmer leaves or is canned, we hire some fresh blood outside the program, which I believe is what we need.

I went to school at State. They don't play on campus. They play at the fairgrounds several miles away. The campus is awkward and crowded and not very attractive.

The facilities and fan loyalty are nothing like UT.

But you forgot the most important thing.

Head coach> Offensive Coordinator.

Cut has said he wants to be a head coach, so I have a feeling he may be gone.

Most top OC's are looking for a HC job not another OC job. That's the problem, and thats why I don't think Fulmer can recruit that type of person.

This topic sort of reminds me of a junior football player deciding on if he will come back another year. If he stays, the fans will be happy and if he leaves, his bankers will be happy.

Ok quick question.

I dont believe Cut will go anywhere, but just for fun who do you think would become our new OC if he did?
