Hey guys. I've kinda strayed away from the board since the end of football season and I never heard anything about gettin a wide recievers coach. Did we get one or what????

Trooper Taylor moved to WR coach and Kurt Roper, a former Cutcliffe assistant at Ole Miss, was brought in from Kentucky to coach the RB's.

From what I've read, Trooper is really making those work hard. He's brought in some new drills for them and he is making them run their butts off when they drop a pass.

He's pairing the receivers up. One will operate the Jugs machine while the other catches the ball. If that player drops a pass, they both have to run. Plus they're doing a lot of up-downs..

He's also making them lay flat on their backs while the machine shoots passes at arms length over top of them and they have to make the catch....

When Meachem was watching Bill Grimes do this he said..

"That ball shoots all different kind of ways," Meachem said. "He can put his foot up to stop the ball from getting in his privates. If he doesn't, he's not ever going to think about having kids."

I think our receivers are going to be much improved this season. Especially if Coach Cut gets the QB's playing right.

Bringing back Cutcliffe is the move that's getting all the pub, but moving Taylor to WR coach may be the most critical move of all. I don't think I've ever seen a collective group of receivers have more trouble running routes and catching the ball than we had last year.

i thought i heard someone say that he moved to wr coach, but i wasnt sure. i went on phillip fulmer.com and checked the coaching staff and it listed trooper at rb coach still. i hope him leaving that position doesnt hurt our rbs.

The overall renovation in the discipline depatment is really encouraging to see. I think this alone will pay dividends. I was amazed last year at the lack of discipline, lack of focus, and just sloppy play on offense. It looked like a lot of these kids got big heads with the pre-season pub and thought they were better than they were.....it seems as though they are now being put back in thier place.

Chattanooga paper article also talked about how they were playing catch using ping pong balls. That should help with the hand/eye co-ordination. The running helps with the stamina because supposedly there will be a smaller rotation of receivers. I just hope they are lifting or doing something that will allow them to get off the line. It was a good article but it wouldn't let me do a link off the computer.

Thank you, that is the one. The other good article was about Clausen working with the overall offense not just the QB's. It actually made a point of saying that the QB's were exclusively Coach Cuts area. Thanks again Ga Vol.

this is JMO but you might not catch so much crap about hating UT and fulmer if you didnt make comments like that EVERYTIME you have an opportunity, i can understand every once in a while MAYBE but with you it's like clockwork

So my question is....Is coach Roper a quality selection....or did we get hung with him because the hour was late and no one else was available? Anyone know his credentials?

If im not mistaken, Trooper put a couple of recievers from tulane in the NFL. Might have to research it.

He was on Cutcliffe's staff at Ole Miss as QB coach. He had the same job for one year at Kentucky.

I honestly don't know much about him, but at least he's familiar with Cutcliffe. Anybody that coaches QBs under Cutcliffe has to know something.

'course it may not matter who we have coaching, if they aren't all out there...the three guys Hardesty, Foster and someone else, name escapes right now, are all out of spring drills....so the coach is missing valuable time with them.....
