Wild Atlanta Braves and Florida Gators stat

Yeah, well Steve Spurrier don't live here no more

Beat me to it.

It’s worth noting in 1995 there was a weird sense of fellowship and camaraderie in Athens.

After UF crushed UGA earlier that day, UF and UGA fans were both cheering for the Braves as they clinched the World Series later that night.

Just goes to show you that at the end of the day, there's more that unites us than divides us.

we shall over come.gif

They also beat them in 1990, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2000, and 2001. That’s all more reflective of Steve Spurrier being the head coach of Florida at the time than anything else.
... and of the fact that Georgia was coached by Ray Goff and Jim Donnan in the 90's... and couldn't beat most good teams at the time, including Tennessee.

There's one thing you could count on with Spurrier and Saban..They understand that you put you team on the field and you were responsible for stopping them. They were never the type to pull back the reigns. Spurrier may have even dropped that line a time or two as he packed it on.

It's actually true of the Milwaukee Braves as well.

They made the WS in 1957 and 1958. Florida beat UGA both years.

But not true for the Boston Braves.

They also made the WS twice, in 1914 and 1948. Florida and Georgia didn't play each other in 1914, but Georgia beat Florida in 1948.

Steve Spurrier was da man.

It's a travesty that the Vols made him quit in 2001. 'travis-ty'....get it?
Didn't Spurrier wave goodbye when he was walking off the field, like it was the plan all along? I swear, I remember that.

I believe that 52 spot was a giant F U towards UGA bc it was played Between The Hedges and Spurrier just felt like it.

I miss 90’s Georgia .
I've heard a firsthand account of the conversation that was going on in the headsets at the end of the game. Apparently Carl Franks came on the headsets with a minute to go and said "Coach, no visiting team has ever scored 50 here." There was about 5 seconds of dead air followed by a really high pitched voice that just said "Throw it!"

I had our flights worked out, and was twitching to book them.

Very disappointing evening.

I knew that Spurrier wanted that 50, but I didn’t know the whole story. That’s pretty good.

Met Carl Franks ex-wife last year at a Duke bar and she was clowning him pretty good, talking about how bad Duke was when he was head coach.
