Will Grier - WVU Bowl Game

I agree. Since he likes to make harsh assertions about a guy he doesn't know based on factors he doesn't know, I'm going to do the same to him.

He worked in the same crappy job for decades and never rose up and was constantly passed over. He's pissed about and blamed everyone else for being "cut throat", "back stabbing" and "kiss ass", and never looked at his own performance and self.
I don’t know how far along he got in said company. I do know my “other theory” has been backed up before. The constant (in this case, likely the OP) is the problem, not the insanely high amount of unhappy workers.

My guess is that his teammates support him.

Yes, my guess is he talked with teammates and coaches about this and everyone is ok. It’s sad for fans because we want to see the whole team but the team understands.

By doing this now, he can prepare individually for the combine if he wants to.

Self over team. Got it.

Good thing the SEALS, Rangers, AFPJ's, and Marines don't bail out when it looks like there's nothing to be gained by sticking around, right?

Yeah, I know, bad analogy. Sign of the times. Welcome to the "Me Generation".

And yet you posted it anyway.

Seems like overreaction and faux outrage are the sign of the times.

Well everyone is making assumptions without knowing my story so here it is. It is fairly known perception that there is backstabbing going on in workplaces across the board and to compare a team environment in the workplace to a team environment for a competitive sports team is as I have stated before apples to oranges. I worked 20 years for a company often working most weekends and in the last 5 years was added double the responsibility when someone was let go. After two surgeries within 9 months which required FLMA I was treated completely different from that point on which in my opinion was very similar how one would treat a dealer selling drugs on a street corner. That is something you hear often also because many companies have a strong dislike for FMLA time off. Hopefully those of you who have made assumptions about me will ever have to go through an workplace event like that. Many on Volnation have agreed with me and many have not agreed with me. I stand by my opinion on Grier.

Not really, I wish you'd go root for someone else if you're going to so easily trash a guy with such ignorance.
I guess we have different values. Vols are my team for over 30 years and I'm going to still pull
for them. Not a classy move to wish other Vol fans to stop being fans because of a difference in opinion. I would not say that to you.

None of this changes the idea of a what a team is. It’s still the same concept. You just had sh***y leadership. Others saw it and wisely left. You apparently stuck it out, thinking it was the right thing to do. There’s a word for that. Hint, it’s not commitment.

You can keep repeating assertions as fact, but they don't make them facts.

And just because YOU had a bad experience doesn't make it "apples and oranges".

You seem to be the last one to be in the position of commenting on anyone else's level of "class".

And yes, we do apparently have different values.

With the championship series being what it is all the rest of the bowl games play much minor roles when it comes to NFL recruiting. NFL recruiting is gathered as a body of work and the competition played against during the season unless it is for the championship at the end of the year.

Stinks for the fans though since they feel they have an investment since they support the team by sitting in hot and cold weather to watch them play and buying their sports items.

Kind of a dumb trend.

Can't remember the case of a high profile player with a major injury in a bowl game that derailed their draft status. Maybe the Miami running back many years ago.

Ohio State had a high profile kid go down in a bowl game just a few years ago. Surprisingly it's what has prompted this by quite a few players.

This is actually a good thing for the future West Virginia. Gives their backup QB (now starter) valuable practice reps and game experience heading into next year.

You're thinking of Willis McGahee, and if he were in college today I highly doubt he skips that game anyway because he got his knee destroyed in the national title game.

Hint: If it's not the playoffs most of the players DGAF about the bowl games.
I don't see an end to this and when players start sitting even during playoff games do any of your views change?

Edit: Not picking you out Hog just hit reply on you. Just would like to see the general thinking of all in the thread to my question.

I'll answer that when it actually happens, not speculation.

Again, I only see this as escalating. Ok lets say it hypothetically happens. You're clear to answer, hypothetically.

I won't like it, but it would still be their decision. But I don't agree anyone will sit out a playoff game just to skip. The only way I see it happening is if they have an injury that they could play but they have a great risk of injurying themself much worse.

Why didn't he sit against Kansas St or Youngstown? Those were meaningless games also. The chance of getting hurt in a bowl game doesn't jump up 90% compared to any other games.

It wouldn't surprise me to see guys sitting out the playoffs in the near future, I think the lure of a chance to win a NC will keep most players from doing so.

Let's just face reality here, the playoffs have made all other bowl games really meaningless except to the fans. Sure the players enjoy the experience and would like to win but they aren't anywhere as meaningful as they used to be. People go to college to prep for a career, if a guy thinks skipping a bowl game will help him get a shot at the NFL more power to him.
