Listening to 680 The Fan here in Atlanta. The rumor is that Will Muschamp is going to become the Defensive Coordinator for the Falcons under presumed Head Coach Dan Quinn.

Would be very strange to see him join Auburn and leave less than one month later, but also would be an incredible opportunity for Muschamp. Now, what if Auburn lost Muschamp to the Falcons and Bama lost Kiffin to the 49ers in the same week?

It would be a very surprising thing to happen this soon into a new contract at a new place of business.

So no I don't think so.

Would Atlanta be able to pay him more than Auburn? I thought he was making about $1.6M at Auburn next year.

The average NFL coordinator pay is not what Muschamp is going to make next year at Auburn. The Falcons would have to make him one of the highest paid coordinators. I don't follow the Falcons, only the Chiefs. This is why I asked whether Atlanta wants to make a statement by hiring a college coach and paying him more than most coordinators.

Quality post right there. :)

Muschamp can do far more damage as Auburn's DC imo.

I hope the NFL rumors are true.

You're probably right, but I do think his future job prospects are probably better in the NFL. If he turns around the Atlanta defense (which is absolutely atrocious), some team might be willing to take a chance on him as head coach. Whereas, Auburn probably has to win 2 out of 3 national titles for a major college football program to hire Muschamp. More likely that a MAC, C-USA, or AAC team hires him. Fwiw I also wonder if he's a better fit for the NFL as a head coach than college.

He's a proven DC at either level.

Pros and cons either way...even a proven NFL DC is at the mercy of the personnel he has to work with, and Muschamp's stock as a CFB head coach is at an all-time low.

Irony at it's finest; Quinn works under Boom as DC at UF and now Boom potentially works for his "pupil".

This would be a two fold win. He's a good defensive cord, so he'd be gone from an opponent of ours. Then, I'd love to see the falcons have a defense and I think he could help.

The Finebaum Show would be an even bigger meltdown than it has been since Bama lost to Ohio State!

This might or might not happen.
We also heard Rex Ryan would bring in Marc Trestman as a "package deal" wherever Rex landed.

Uh no !
