...start to look and sound like the forum did after Dooley's third- and fifth-game losses to Florida and Georgia in his THIRD season? Will we give CBJ as much time to adjust as we did Dools? Will VN members give up, turn their backs, hate the players, hate the coaches, fight with each other? Will the numbers of CBJ supporters start to dwindle rapidly as they are called all sorts of names by the growing crowd of frustrated fans expecting greatness too soon? After UAB, we have tough games against UGA, USCe, and Bama. What will VolNation be like if we lose all three of those? And make no mistake, this season will probably look very much like all of Dooley's seasons.
I'm no football guru, but even I saw that Worley's was by far the better QB on paper. While Worley was averaging over 10 yards per completion and a 61% completion rate, Peterman was averaging fewer than 7 yards per completion and a 50% completion rate. Worley had more experience and is a bigger athlete. The only trump card we might have held was that Peterman would be more mobile, a dual-threat QB. But dual-threat QBs do not phase teams like Florida, who practice five days a week against dual-threat QBs. Normally, a betting man would think swapping them would be a terrible idea, but I...like most of you...thought it was a great idea. Turned out we lost that bet. Badly.
God I hope we aren't seeing the beginnings of a repeat of the Dooley years. Can we realistically chalk this up to the fact that CBJ is working with players Dooley recruited? Is it really that simple? Or is there something more fundamental going on here? How can the fan base, and specifically VolNation members, play a role in changing the course of this team?
