The Columbia Daily thinks so:

No. 15 Tennessee (minus 13) at Vanderbilt: Vandy will do something it hasn't done in three years - score on Tennessee, which has won the last three by a combined 110-0. The Vols will do something they've done for 21 seasons in a row - beat the Commodores, with this one clinching a berth opposite Auburn in the SEC championship game. Tennessee 24-7.

No, they won't score. We still get no respect, even from papers in our own state. We'll score at least 30 points against Vandy. Final score: UT 31, Vandy 0.

I think the law of averages dictates that Vandy should slip up and score at least every 4 years?????

Here's BCS guru Jerry Palm's prediction of the game....

Tennessee 45
Vanderbilt 3

Tennessee has won 21 in a row in this series, but this would be a moral victory for the Commodores, who have not scored on the Vols in three years. The trophy (the paddle) symbolizes what UT does to Vandy each year. "Thank you, sir! May I have another?!"

FYI - Palm lists the trophies for each rivalry game. If there is not one, he attempts to assign a humorous one. For the Tennessee-Vanderbilt rivalry... its the fight for "the paddle".

All I will say is remember Rutgers, Memphis, and the other times that Vanderbilt won when it was impossible for them to win. I believe we will win but I don't believe it will be the prettiest. I think KY will be an ugly win also. TN never does what you expect or hope they will do.

I suspect we'll turn the ball over early in the game allowing Vandy to score. Also, Cutler is a very good QB and will engineer a couple of drives in the first half tht will result in field goals. We'll be sharp in the second half and win this one going away. Be patient as the still injured OL and our new QB need some time to adjust.

Vols 35-13

Did you actually compare Tennessee to Rutgers and Memphis?

No, I'm not comparing TN to Rutgers or Memphis. I'm just saying we have lost to lesser teams before when we were by far the overwhelming favorite to win.

The loss to Rutgers (8-3) you refer to was in 1979. The Vols were a not to stellar 7-5 that season.... with losses to Rutgers and Ole Miss sandwhiched around an upset of 13th ranked Notre Dame. During that rough stretch, the Vols lost 4-of-6 games.

The loss to Memphis (4-7) in 1996 was devastating. The Peyton Manning led Vols, ranked 6th in the country, were unexplicably beaten by Tiger High. I was at the game and remember how Memphis had virtually no offense in the game and their quarterback was hobbling around injured. Special teams, a few bad officiating calls, and some game ending momentum helped the Tigers to the improbable 20-17 victory. Had the Vols held on for the win.... upsets down the stretch of the season allowed a 1-loss Florida team to get a rematch with Florida State in the National Championship game. Had the Vols not lost to Memphis, it would not be out of reason to say that they could have been playing Florida State for the National Championship.

However, to compare this season's Vanderbilt (2-8) and Kentucky (2-8) team's to those 2 teams from '79 and '96 is quite a stretch. And the Vols are not really overwhelming favorites right now.... 13 points over Vanderbilt?

Im guessing Vandy will get a field goal, but wont get a TD...i foresee turnovers in the red zone.... :cross:

A bit iffy on the field goal.... Vandy is 7-of-14 this season..... and they have also been poor on PAT's, missing 3.

If Vandy scores it will probably come in the first half.I think I read somewhere that Vandy hasn't scored any points against an SEC opponent in the 4th qtr. this year.
